I have to say that this is probably my favorite Lego model that I've built. My adoration of the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip by Bill Watterson goes back to my high school days. Years later, I came across Mark Sandlin's Spiffcraft quite by chance (the first Lego Spiffcraft as far as I know) and I was soon drawn in to the AFOL community.
My first Spiffcraft was red, naturally, and I built it in late fall 2000 as I was making my first Captain Ahnee story. I tried to cram in as much detail as I could. I even took some artistic liberties, such as brake lights and hatches for the Freem drive and Frap ray. Eventually, I made instructions so that others could make the same model.
The original Spiffcraft from the comics is red and piloted by Spaceman Spiff, an imaginary hero and sometimes alter-ego to Calvin. After making the red one I decided to try different colors. These were the colors I was able to make the model with (dark gray not shown).
Wow! I really like to Calvin and Hobbes. It is my favorite book. The only thing I can possbly think that is inaccurate is that it may be slightly small. You should make more C&H legos . Over all it is a awsome!
