The F-18 Super Hornet rules the skys!
About this creation
The F-18 Super Hornet.
Type:carrier-based naval strike fighter
Power:two 71-kN (16,000) thrust General Electric F404-GE-400 turbofans.
Weightmaximum take off weight is 22317 kg (49,200 lbs).

A front view of the plane. The dimensions of the real F-18 are a wing span of 11.43 meters (37ft 6in), and a length of 17.07 meters (56ft), so I took these dimensions and made my replica 11 by 17 inches instead of meters.

A side view.

An"inflight" view with me holding it. The F-18 is equipped with a M61 20-mm six-barrelled cannon mounted in the front of the nose, for close quarter combat, plus nine external hardpoints for weapon(bomb) storage under its wings.

A back view of one of the engines, and tail wings.

An afar view.
The F-18 super hornet is an upgraded version of the original F-18. It was released to the navy in 1999. So how do I know this stuff? Well my dad who is an aerospace engineer, helped design this plane. He worked on the landing gear. The F-18 remains in combat today, but is slowly being replaced by the F-22 Raptor.

It's not an F-18. It's a Harrier/Hornet mix...Nice work though. |

sometimes, criticism is helpful in improvement, and I have built a hornet out of real bricks and it transformed into a robot and was more detailed and could still hold a minifig. sorry to take this to your page dylan B, really. Very good still. |

very good, but not very accurate at all. the real one has two jets and the wings really aren't slanted. All in all, very good, but it looks more like a harrier. |

This is good, very good. But, it needs two engines, less slanty wings, and it is being replaced by the F-35, not F-22. |
|
|
Its ok, it looks way more like some spacefighter than a Hornet though. |

In this model it is very evident that you put effort into the design. My main gripe about it is that the wings have a sharper leading edge. Very nice model though!
|
| By the way... The Super Hornet at this point in time is not being phased out of US service. The United States Air Force doesn't Use F/A-18s, due to the F-15 (The Hornet and Super Hornet are Navy). The Raptor is designed to replace the F-15, but it's innability to take off from a carrier made it useless for Navy. The F-18 is planned to be phased out sometime this year by F-35 Lightning, which is basicaly a small F-22 with a lift fan, one engine, and a less swept leading edge.
|
Still, this is a very nice model.
