About this creation
My entry for the January 2009 Lego Building Competition staged by Silversprings and Scenic Acres Community Associations in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
I started building in late September 2008, stopped for about 45 days before Christmas and finished on January 16th, 2009, just a few hours before the model was dropped off at the community hall!
Lots of SNOT technique and some weak areas near the front wheel arches that, if time had permitted should have been redesigned. Ultimately it was going to include a white camper on the back and a section of a street scene but the 45 day work stoppage put paid to that!
Video here: Click for YouTube
Model will be disassembled shortly, and I'll start thinking about next year's entries.

Nice. The details are incredible. I like the idea of the rearview mirrors. You dont see those type of details on smaller minifig scale cars and trucks. |

Hi !
thanks for adding me as a favourite builder :)
I love this truck - you've really done a good job of it !
I also like the various styles of building you've used, and the different ways to make certain parts of the vehicle; the interior and front grill especially are really well done !
I'm working on a 1/10 scale car myself rioght now... but quite a different one, a 1929 Bugatti :)

Hi there Sir.
My apologies, I replied to you this morning but for whatever reason, unknown to mankind, the reply did not post properly. So I'll retype it now.
Thanks for your kind words. I am glad you like my model. Your idea for your MOC sounds great! I wish you luck with it.
The Silver Springs/ Scenic Acres LEGO competition is normally held in January and is announced on their website normally in November. Here is the link:

I know you plan to build a GM vehicle, but this may still be useful info. For my Ford I went to http://www.fordification.com/ where I was able to download blueprints. I measured the LEGO wheels I wanted to use and scaled the drawings up to match on a 1:1 scale. I printed the drawings out and was able to actually lay out the LEGO bricks right on them - this made it very easy to get the chassis exactly right. For the body work I would sight the drawing behind the model and check the profile. All-in-all this made the building stage much more fun and accurate!
Do not worry about this talk of mistakes in the judging. The truth is that last year's mistake was quickly rectified and no hard feelings ever were there. And, quite frankly, I do not believe the account of this year's "mistake". The web page link I included above currently has a list of all the prize winners and the complainant is not listed anywhere.
When you consider that there are 250 models and just volunteer judges (who may or may not be LEGO builders themselves), I think they do an amazing job!
Best wishes and I look forward to seeing you next January!

Great TRUCK. I live in Calgary and need to find information about this LEGO contest, first time I've heard of it. Although it sounds like a RIBBON might be tuff to get with all the MIX ups going on. Maybe I'll be a jug. My brother has a '69 GMC wood panel half-ton which I think might make a great MOC. Your choice of pieces go great with your scale. I've never built to scale so I guess I'll research and ask questions. Overall, you have one of the BEST MOC's I've ever seen. Good luck with next years. |

Well done. During the silver springs lego show I was talking to the guy who built the tow truck and he claims that he beat you but they gave away his prize to you as second place becuase he had to leave early. I think his tow truck was manufactured by the lego company anyways.Im wondering if this is actually true? Other than that you have an excellent display. By the way; its me johan.
I think you've got a sticky trigger finger - this is the 4th time you've sent me this comment!!
Yep, I still don't believe it - not only do the judges not have any knowledge if you are leaving early, but at the prize ceremony the prizes are awarded regardless of whether the person is present or not. Besides awards are made based on the merit of the model, not on the schedule of the modeller. And why would an early departure mean you get second place, not first place? That is illogical. Nothing is really adding up in Vincent's story, so I'll just leave it at that. |

I am not sure how that can be true - the judges do not know if anyone is leaving early, so the ribbons are placed without that knowledge. There was a first place ribbon on my truck when I went in the room - and I was one of the first in the room, if not the first.
But it doesn't matter either way.
The sdame thing happened last year but the other way around. I was displayed on the stage last year and the judges didn;t know which category I was in. They gave me first place but also gave first place to the only other entrant in the Adult buildings and structures category, when she was really second.
I honestly don't care. I know I built the best model I could, and I know that next year's will be even better!
Anyway, well done with yours. A definite improvement over the other work of yours that I have seen and a sure fire winner!
Great! I have your contact info know - I'll send you some links.
