Hello all! Well, here is my 'debut' I guess with a Lego version of Samus Aran in her Varia suit. I'd been playing the games recently, and man is she cool. Consider this my tribute to her and the people that made her games.
About this creation
Allow me to begin this small tour of the model by talking about the shoulder pieces, since they are more or less prominently displayed in the intro photo. The pieces are actually turbines taken from the Naboo Starfighter designer kit, with a little bit of spherical rounding using wheels...
Here we see Samus here against some alien vegetation... It's not a huge model, about my average model size. As you can see, she's not quite able to stand on her own. The leg design was tricky, due mostly to the lack of bricks in the correct color. Some colors are off a bit, such as a lack of orange over the majority of the suit, but it's not too bad.
Getting back to the leg design- During building, it became difficult to come up with a way to joint the knees and still have her support her own weight. The compromise I eventually made was to add a base to support her. The base came out well though, so I have no complaints.
There is some lack of detail in the rear of the model, mostly because she is always displayed from the front, but again, also because of a lack of bricks with which to do a more decent job. I did however add the thruster pack that most certainly couldn't be missing.
One of the more unique portions of the model is the shoulder joints. They not only connect the Shoulder 'spheres', but also allow for full range of motion in the arms. This was a pleasant surprise for me, as I was only attempting to design a connection, not a fully working joint. If only I'd been able to duplicate something like it in the knee and hip joints...
Anyway, I had a lot of fun building her, and I hope you enjoyed the quick run through, feel free to ask questions about the design or request more photos if you so desire!

This is an excellent representation of Samus! I especially like the creative use of that handlebar piece for the mouth part of her helmet. Only one thing: your pictures are way too small. I suggest 800x600, or at least 640x480. |

I agree with Zack, and also try to make the legs less "skinny". Still, great job! (SAMUS FTW :D!) |

Yeah, I know what you mean, the blue visor was a bummer. I had thought about buying more Legos to be able to color everything properly, but instead compromised...
I also thought about a couple variants, specifically the Light suit (The thought of trying to duplicate the flowing lines of that suit made me shudder.) or the PED suit ( a more realistic goal.)
I hadn't given any thought to making a couple of her enemies... Inspiration maybe? |

This is pretty awesome, I think you have almost all the features down. The only problem is the face part should be green. |
