Similar to the Zoltar Speaks machine featured in the movie BIG - this version is based closely on the machines found in arcades and amusement parks.
About this creation
I've been thinking about doing this MOC since the "Guess the Movie" category of the 2008 MocOlympics and have finally had the inspiration to complete the build.
When I started building my goal was to place the machine in an inconspicuous place on our layout and see how many people noticed it. Zoltar was, most notably, from the movie BIG with Tom Hanks, however the Zoltar Speaks fortune telling machines do exist in the real world(I saw one this summer in Wisconsin Dells).
As usual, my scale was completely off and the machine was much too large to inconspicuously go anywhere in our minifig sized layout. So, instead of tearing it apart and starting from scratch I took Dave's advice and kept the mega large version for display and created a smaller version for the layout.
Both versions have their unique qualities and I had fun learning some basic SNOT for the large version. For those of you coming to Brickworld 2009, be on the lookout for Zoltar - bonus points for finding him on the layout.

Quoting Chris Phipson
Little known fact about that part of the movie. He wasn't asking that HE got bigger, he was wishing for a bigger... ummm... we'll go with moc... yeah, moc. Great build Stacy, and kescenovitz better get to it quick 'cause if not... it is so mine. Oh, and what are those bonus points good for? ~ Chris.
How did I know that Chris would be the first to make an adult rated comment? We'll talk about bonus point redemption at Brickworld....
Aside from that, thanks to everyone for the compliments! |

So I've totally been lame by not commenting on this MOC yet. Yeah...you can whip me later. I'll probably enjoy it. ;-) Anywho...on to the review. First off...SNOT! It's taken you long enough to start playing with it...and you did a fabulous job. I really like how you got the clear panels in there sideways. Great work. As always, the devil is in the details and you are by far the 'Detail Devil'. Every MOC you build is chock full of awesome little details and I love it! Finally, I'll echo everyone else by saying great choice on the subject. |
