Raptor built using the Sandcrawler, MTT, & Boba Fett's Slave 1, with no bricklink purchases
About this creation
I finally got the modifications done and have one less incomplete project on the table.
A shortened nose, a raised roof, and more tiles.
Enjoy.
Well, I finally took a few of my beloved, cherished, adored, dusty, Star Wars Legos off of the shelves and had an absolute BLAST building the Colonial Raptor without a SINGLE Bricklink purchase. I can't believe I did it, with my wife's help of course. I spent about 1 week straight working on it, several hours each night and a couple of long days on the weekends. My wife came up with an improved nose with the dradus and radar dish placement, the idea of using 1x1 cyliners as the missiles, color choices overall, the optimal slopes to use on the rear stabilizers, and use of tiles to cover up studs on the wing flaring. More than all of that, she lovingly let me build frantically.
The Sandcrawler and MTT were just loaded with slopes, and since the real Raptor is a brown color, I thought, "what the heck!" I'll make it brown.
Also of important note, I used the windscreen from Boba Fett's Slave 1 ship just to see if it could be done. I struggled with this decision, as I honestly prefer the 8x6x4 windscreen that others have used. I used jumpers to get the pilot and co-pilot to be able to sit perfectly side by side in the 6-stud wide cockpit. Covering up the front of the windscreen was a CHALLENGE, and I used quite an elaborate combination of hinges, modified bricks with studs on the sides, and a lot of squeezing and wiggling to get the nose in place and sturdy.
I worked off of an "actual scale diagram" of the Raptor located at: http://miotd.com/images/20070216.jpg
I hope you enjoy, and I have plans to build more BSG ships in the upcoming 8 weeks as Season 4 winds down to an end.
Oh, and here is my spoiler, all of humanity are cylons. Ellen may have been the "8th", but Dee realized she was one too, which is why she did what she did. There you have it, let's see if I'm right.

A Battlestar Galactica fan! Excellent. Excellent build.
Did you bring this to Brickworld?
BTW: This doesn't look like a skyscraper!!! It was there, hanging out in the Viper Hangar Bay like a step-child. |

Nicely done, but now you have me wanting more. Any wips of those future builds you mentioned? Lee. regrettably no BSG WIP's. The last 10 episodes of the final season left such a bad taste in my mouth that I just can't bare to pay homage to the producers again. I planned to do a Cylon Heavy Raider, but the lame series ending killed those plans |

I love brown ships, and I love how you angled the hull on this ship. This ship is just awesome, as cliche and overused as that is. It is really a great build. |

Actually, the photos at the top, above the commentary, are of the modified design, with the original photos below the commentary.

if you don't mind my asking, did you take any pictures of the raptor once you'd added the plates to make it taller? would be good to see if it worked out

This is one fine piece of machinery. I've got a hole in my life, I've never seen BSG. Looking at this makes me want to do it even more... Very innovating building techniques and the overall impression is superb. |

Thanks for the constructive criticism on the geometry. Yeah, I could tell when I first posted that it was too short. I made it 4 plates taller, but I think you're right that it could stand to be a bit taller yet. Yeah, as I remember, your Viper is awesome. Quoting UNSC A.I. Caspian, Serial Number CSP 0377-1
freakin awesome, dude
thanks for the comment on my viper! sorry it took ages to reply, but kudos for the raptor! if there was one thing i would criticise, it's the height-(width/length) ratio
it seems a little bit on the short side, vertically speaking. id recommend taking it apart by horizontal planes, and adding a couple of layers of bricks here and there, to see how it turns out. |

Quite the awesome design on a not so easy project!!! You captured the essential components of the Raptor!!! The best Raptor out there!

That is a tricky one to build: Lego doesn't make Raptor friendly bricks so it really tests the inventiveness of the builder. I say well done on trying to capture it! |

nice build but some complaints. i think it could do without the weapon pods for starters. also the nose needs to be stubbier(might be hard with it covering the windscreen). but other than that i have to say good job.
The lack of 2 little brown corner slopes kept me from doing a similar design as others have done on the nose. This is the 2nd nose design I had, and when the bricks come in for my next project, I may re-do the nose since I threw in those 2 lttle bricks...
