About this creation
The Kalashnikov Project is my new brain-child. I will be building the Eastern Block's Newest Spaceship, the EBKD Kalashnikov, flagship of Junior Marshalate. As an aid to myself and to others, I will be recording each step along the way, from drawing to finished copy.
My hope is that for anyone who doesn't think they could pull off a large spaceship, they can learn from me. Trying to build a ship from scratch and looking at the masters for inspiration can be kinda daunting. This is will be an indepth look at the inside of how i am making this ship. I'll try to make it as complete as possible.
For myself, I hope the masters can look at what ive done and give me advice as to how to better plan a large ship. Of course, their input will be on the open forum of Lugnet, so it will also serve as helpful for people trying to build their first Spaceship.
The name "Kalashnikov" comes from the famous (or should I say infamous) automatic rifle, the AK-47. The AK-47 is so well known because it was much cheaper than the American M-16, and much more abundant. Chances are, if you see guerillas (not gorillas), they'll be holding Kalashnikov rifles. I chose the name because it seemed a great name for an attack frigate, and because the Eastern Block has a Soviet-esque flavor to it.
I hope this is helpful to someone!

the final drawing before production begins. i've also put descriptor of what everything is.

this is post-final drawing, and is used while i create the floor (which will determine the shape of the ship). here's ive got the lengths of various sections of the ship, input as i go along.

early design concepts. note 4 escape pods, instead of 2. the crew is going to be 8 ppl, so 4 pods seems kinda excessive.

|
concept for an internal door, a bit shorter than it will be in real life.
|

and the door open, note how much extra room i need to make way for the door sliding. the door itself is 6 long b/c i need two studs to attach the axle rod.

how the escape pod will attach. not a true airlock, but the pods won't be used unless they're abandoning ship.

inside of the pod door., the rest of the pod won't be so cramped.

a defence gun. it'll prolly end up underneith the bridge.

missile designs. smaller ones may be used as anti-fighter missiles, bigger ones as anti-SHIP and anti-planet (ie, nukes, etc). they'll operate like missile on a sub, coming out through the roof.

a cannon turret idea. prolly won't be used in its current form.

the work area, with the ship in the lower left. i'm using a dark grey floor. hopefully i'll have enough to also make a dark grey roof.

the bridge. the 6x6x9 convex corner panels are ~5 bricks high, more than enough for a minifig to stand. the ship itself will be 6 bricks high.

the underside, where landing gear will go eventually.
