A 12-wide classic American pickup truck. It was built solely from pieces in the new "Designer" series of LEGO sets.
About this creation
This was the first large-scale car that I've built. It is 12-studs wide and roughly the same scale as the LEGO company's theme park "mini land" models.

I made it for display in the What would you make international design gallery that the LEGO company had on display in June 2003. It was built solely from pieces in the Make & Create ("LEGO Designer") sets.

The biggest challenge I faced was the limited selection of pieces. Often I would not have enough red pieces to build the model the way I wanted, and I would have to re-build. The entire rear bed of the pickup was done very haphazardly, since I was really running out of pieces at that point.

I would have liked to have made the grille and bumper with shiny "silver" pieces, but the LEGO Designer kits did not come with very many silver pieces, so grey had to do.

Here is the interior of the truck. There's a car radio (it was invented already; I checked!), a gear shift, and a gas pedal.

I'm not too happy with the way the back came out; I wouldn't have made the lip of the bed 2 bricks thick, and I would have rounded out the backs of the fenders more, but I was just plain out of red bricks.

The original inspiration to build this classic car was the curvy and sloped red pieces that made their way into the fenders.

Under contsruction, with a different hood and bumper.

I often had to take large sections apart and start over becuase I limited myself to the pieces in the LEGO "Designer" kits.

Nice! This truck is a 1949 Chevy 3100 (you haven't put it in the description... Don't know if it's because you forget/don't know or you not allowed to "name" it like that?),however: really nice done, shape looks good all over the car (exept for the cab, should be lower I think, only my point of view...) Take a look at my custom one if you want: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/320439 , is smaller than your...

Good, I have a '51 chevy,(too bad Im only 14 and cant drive it yet), which isnt too far off from this, but i also think its too narrow and the roof is a little bit tall. Very nice use of parts on the fenders.....by the way about the radio back then, My dad's '36 ford has a radio, and it is NOT aftermarket. 4/5

Nice details on the car, but the shape isn't really well. I think that the roof is to high, and the whole car is to small. But still nice creation. I give this one a 3/5.

Hello. To start, thanks for making this sight. I'd been looking for something free and simple to put my stuff on for quite a while. Next, I've made a truck extremely similar to your photo of the real one. It's a tad wider, I think, and it doesn't look as 'round'. However, I'd be pleased if you would comment on it. Thank you, matthew.

Hey, this is really good. The fender flares truly capture the essence of the 40's and 50's. The reason I only gave you a 4 was thet its too narrow. I know that you limeted youself with the number of bricks, but it would look better if you essencially split it down the middle and added 3 studs. It would make everything look better.

Excellent! This truck is a very cool model! I think it is one of your best creations. It's amazing how good you can build a model only with "Make & Create" bricks. Build on like that! -Sven
