Over at the VOAT Consortium (damn that sounds cool) we've been discussing possible sequels to the VOAT phenomenon, as created by Uspez Morbo, with a view to making the VOAT concept more accessible. It's become apparent that those old school hexagonal canopy pieces are tricky for many builders to get a hold of. With that in mind I tried to think of a cockpit module that was very simple yet still looked cool and I came up with this basic brick cube, just held together by a few half-pins. No canopy pieces involved! It looked alien and mysterious (while still paying homage to the original VOAT look with the three components) so I thought: what about a mysterious race of aliens who were known only by their spaceships, all of which were built around these enigmatic green cube cockpits? The rest of the spaceship being built around the cube. Just what kind of creature pilots these craft, biological lifeforms or digital beings? Perhaps no two Mysterion ships are ever the same? I've used black only for this example so that all colour is highlighted only by the cube but perhaps other colours are needed? It's fairly small; I imagine this one as an armed scout. Larger, more elaborate versions would be interesting to build...
So, what do you guys think? I look forward to hearing comments/suggestions and seeing other VOAT 2 designs (bring it Nate Bush!) and of course Uspez has the final say as VOATs are his theme.
So I'm sittin here, trying to come up with something funny and original to say. All that's coming to mind is something about what a big probe that is. Of course there is also the obvious christmas gift jokes, but being as all I got this year was coal, I really have nothing to compare it to. I would however, like to give you full props on that simple yet effective way of connecting the bricks back to back. Gonna have to steal that one. ~ Chris.
It'd be a toss-up between you and nnenn for the most creative and unique space vehicle designs. This one looks like somebody wrapped one of Nannan's black fantasy MOCs for Christmas and the thing's busting out!
Ah, I see the potential now! This is very cool. Hopefully we'll see mysterious Mysterions boxes popping up all over the place. I already have some ideas so I'll hit you with some questions over at the VOAT Consortium.
