Decepticon Shift is a Lego Transformer created to celebrate the approach of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
About this creation

When the Decepticons attacked the Autobots in Mission City, Sam fled carrying the All-Spark. Random spurts of energy created a variety of new Transformers, and the loyalty of these new robots was very much in question. Sensing an opportunity, Megatron sent a coded burst transmission to Barricade, ordering him to cruise the streets of Mission City and recruit or destroy these new creatures.

Barricade’s Saleen Mustang cruiser form quickly dispersed a crowd of street-racers, but one car remained – a scheming, duplicitous Transformer who had taken the name Shift. His love of deceit made him an instant favorite of Barricade’s, who took Shift under his wing to train for a special mission. Reports from spies in the Autobot ranks indicated an undercurrent of resentment against humans by a number of Autobots, particularly those with connections to Ironhide.

Shift’s objective was to gain the trust of the Autobots, and to find individuals with a reason to hate humans. Through any means necessary he was to twist the knife of bitterness to make them less likely to follow orders and more likely to defect.
Currently, Shift is undercover, posing as a true-blue Autobot, even as he’s carefully working on his list of lukewarm Autobots. He loves to challenge other cars to street-race, and he usually wins, since he has no problem with cheating…or running over an occasional pedestrian.
This series of pictures shows Shift's transformation process. First, the arms pop out from the body. The shoulders rotate to allow the arms to move forward. In the second picture, the legs have extended and rotates. In the third picture, he can finally stand up. His head is attached and hanging behind his body.

Background: What better way to celebrate the approach of June 26, 2009 (the release date for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) than with a Lego Transformer? Shift is my fourth Transformer; my second on MOCpages. He took about three weeks to assemble. He was always meant to be a Decepticon. I just had to come up with a good reason for a Decepticon to be a car.

Technical information: Shift has 27 hinged pieces and 1 2x2 turning plate. At the widest point, in the hood area, he is 13 studs wide, including wheels. In the back, he is 12 studs wide, including wheels. Most of his joints lock into place, the major exception being his shoulders. His arms weigh too much – they can only be placed in a limited number of positions. He stands independently, and all parts can stay attached as he transforms.

Credits: I would like to thank Nichole for encouraging me and listening throughout another project. I forgive you for falling asleep during my discussions on joints and limbs, honey. Thanks for taking the pictures, too.
I would also like to thank my brother, Chris. Without the large supply of (Lego) joints he gave me for Christmas, I could have never come close to making Shift. You’re awesome, dude.
Finally, I want to mention Adrian Florea and his Decepticon Shellshock . Looking at his Lego Transformer really intimidated me, but after lots of practice and some success, it became an inspiration. You really need to check Shellshock out!!

I really think this is a good design for any Transformer. I like the massive amount of detail in both modes. It's a 5 out of 5 for sure. |

This is a SWEET job! You do Transformers justice! I have just completed my first Lego Transformer, and have yet to post it. I agree with all that you have said, and it does indeed take time! So congratulations on a robot that fully transforms and a fantastic job on the car! It must have taken some time! |

...The car is better than most cars on MOCpages...
Good thing you posted after Firas! He does some pretty awesome stuff. I appreciate your comment. I worked hard to get a reasonable-looking car. I really wanted a cool robot, though. I'm starting another Transformer project; we'll see if it ever gets off the ground (ha-ha - that's a little pun just for me). |

Quoting Jp ...
Woaw! I've tried a thousand times to make a transformer that really transforms, but I never succeeded!
Jp - My first few tries were unimpressive. The biggest help for me was having the toys from the movie. Transforming those babies over and over gave me lots of ideas for how to make the transformation work. When I see what you've done on your site, I have confidence you'll be making better Transformers than me soon. |

Billions well invested I may add - This transformer rocks, and I am so glad he is a street racer rather than a Scion. Although, when it is all said and done he is going to be nothing more than scrap metal, springs, and axles because Autobots will conquer! |
