The DF-9.2 PREDATOR (in opposite to what the most people think, DF does not stand for Dawn Forge in this case, it stands for Destroyer Frame, 9.2 gives the weapon-level and PREDATOR is the name of this kind of combat mechs) is my first try to create a Dawn Forge mech. I´m a fan of The Dawn Forge since my first day here at MOCpages and since I saw them I thought that they are some of the best LEGO creations I know. After a lot of thinking and planing, I collected nearly all my dark grey and created my own Dawn Forge mech. The result you can see here.
About this creation
First of all I would like to say "thank you" to Brian Kescenovitz for creating this theme and for the inspiration I got from his Dawn Forge creations. Also a big "thank you" goes to Mark Kelso, because his Dawn Forgery was my personal reason to create my own Dawn Forge mech.
Here a picture to show it´s scale, left to it you can see my BoS paladin:

Two back views:

The feeds and legs were a lot of work:

Walking:

Weapon systems:
-Two rocket launchers, both with 14 260mm rockets used as middle distance artillery
-One LPE-091 Impulse turret used against air vehicles
-One 630mm rocket used against air vehicles
-Two 22mm automatic cannons for anti armor use
-One rocket pod with 2 220mm rockets as littler distance artillery
-Two 980mm rockets used as high distance artillery
-Four 780mm rockets for anti personal use
-One small railgun used against other mechs or tanks
-One heavy chaingun turret, consisting of one 56mm chaingun for anti vehcile and anti
personel use, one 20mm automatic cannon and one LEP-021 Impulse cannon

The chaingun has a nice playable element, with the red lights from Exo Force mechs I created a laser sight for the weapon:

Here the cockpit, it has some nice details, but all in all not so special:

Oh and I hadn´t to deconstruct my Venator for it, not even one piece:
So, for the end I´ll give my personal review of the Dawn Forge theme:
I was very suprised by this theme, I thought it would be easy to make e.g. the feeds, but it wasn´t as easy as I thought, it really needs a lot of SNOT bulding technics, but if they are known it isn´t making such big problems. Also a lot of dark grey detail pieces are needed for the heavy armor of Dawn Forge mechs. I would recommand to own sets with a lot of such pieces or to buy some before starting with the constrution. If you have enough of the needed pieces and good abilities, I can really recommand this theme, it makes a lot of fun to construct own Dawn Forge mechs and when the work is done you´re getting a really good feeling that you have created a huge mech. Finally I can say that I´m going to build some more mechs like this.

This mech has a very nice body structure, but the amount of weapons compromise it's appearance and believability. In terms of believability we will put aside the fact that it is a large, two legged tank and ask ourselves how the mech will possibly have enough room to power and provide ammunition for these weapons on top of having a complicated propulsion system and some sort of power supply. Even if the mech could support the weapons, a human driver would have an incredibly hard time deciding which weapons system to use for which target and attempting to maximize the efficiency of the mech (using all of the weapons at the same time), especially since the driver is inside of a clear canopy, suggesting the use of hand manipulated controls as opposed to a direct neural link to the combat frame. (I wouldn't be commenting on the realism of the mech, but you did include a scifi back-story) However more importantly, the aesthetics of the mech are ruined by the amount of weapons. By itself, the mech has a clean look, but you made it look cluttered and somewhat ramshackle by the amount of weapons. In conclusion, you should take off some weapons. |

Thanks man for telling me that I am making good MOCs for my age I really appriciate it. I changed my name once and for all so you know because since you read my age, you know that my real name is David, and I got Dav from the first 3 letters in David. (And in Dav, you say the (a)like the (a) in apple.) I just thought I would tell you why I changed my name.
Thanks for the info, I guess now you finally found the right name. |

This mech looks like it is ready to move with its forward stance and "chicken walker" style legs and torso set up. The fact that your mech is wide and gives a heavy duty look, and it looks like it is ready to move given the legs. Suggests mobility and action. Cool! |
