Shannonia expands: North Heights
Homer: "Tell me one thing mankind has ever done that's any better?" Lisa: "The Renaissance." Homer: "This is better."
About this creation

The wonderful North Heights. Beautiful, beautiful. It's just a bunch of rocks, you say? Try filling several baseplates full of microscale buildings, no two exactly alike, AND write little stories for every single one of them, I say. Yeah. You'd kill to build a bunch of rocks after that.

Dome Hill. This round knob of land between the beach and the North Heights foothills has been the site of a bitter divide among Shannonians ever since archaeologists discovered evidence that an ancient stone circle, or henge, once stood on top. But the residents of the area, not to mention countless vocal treehuggers, don't want the trees now up there cleared away so they can excavate. The debate rages on.

This little neighborhood goes back almost to the time when the first settlers hacked their way through the dense forest in the saddle of land between Dome Hill and the North Heights. The city grew around them, and the original residents, cursing the encroachment on their peace and quiet, left in disgust.

Someday Shannonia will be destroyed, and I'll wonder what the hell I'm going to do with a million green cones and gray slopes. Or maybe I'll be so overwhelmed with all the grill tiles and 1x1 slopes from the rest of the city I won't even notice.

Department of Licenses. Citizens and tourists alike are allowed to hunt tigers in the North Heights Wilderness. $100 for a pointed stick license, or upgrade to the stick and sharpened rock license for another $75. Permits expire in 90 days or upon death of the permit holder, whichever comes first.

Malterra Wilderness Area. One thing you should know about this, and as a matter of fact, all Wilderness Areas in Shannonia: Here There Be Tygers. Seriously. The Mayor is a big fan of tigers, and let loose a breeding population here, since they're going extinct everywhere else.

North Heights Wilderness Area. Don't get lost, Shannonia does not offer any search-and-rescue. If you can't make it out, you had no business being there in the first place.

The annual North Heights Tiger Dodge is a thrilling spectacle, whose participants make those people who run with the bulls in Pamplona look like a bunch of pansies. Contestants race over a 20-mile course through the deepest part of tiger country, wearing suits made entirely of fresh raw meat. The surprising thing is not that no one has ever finished the race -- it's that year after year, people keep signing up to do it.

Shere Khan Outfitters. Where tigers can obtain licenses to hunt humans in the urban jungles of Shannonia's streets. It's only fair.

At the moment, it's a complete mystery as to where the tunnel goes -- those brave enough to venture in never come back.

And to think, this installment was only the halfway point of the "Shannonia expands" cycle. Who's crazier, me for building it, or you for reading it?

Wow! Another great addition! Hey, you should use those grille pieces as train tracks. Or did you do that already. Or did someone ask that already. I don't know. but anyway, you should do that!

I don't have a lot of time to type this as I'm covered in raw meat and am in the middle of the run myself. But, I do have a nice new chainsaw so we can get that excavation started as soon as we find some clubbed baby seals to distract those hippies long enough... ~ Chris.

I agree with ShannO, once you explained the Tigers and the "Tiger Dodge," I envisioned people running about with red meat all over them, with tigers dragging them off into the bushes. Very detailed! And only halfway?! I dunno about you, but I'm running out of creative comment juices…

Starting to remind me of Terry Pratchett's Ankh-Morpork city, for some reason. Although to be honest, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! You build the nature section and you don't add any factories, wood/paper mills or even a secret Skunk Works testing ground? Shame on you. Good day

I'd like to know where that tunnel goes. Try sending a live TV crew down there. Anyway, the great Shannon Young still hasn't checked out MOCRPG.

Man, I thought that town was tough but Dome hill is a major death trap. Still it makes me wonder. Where would a tiger get the licence fee and why would he want to pay it? If you wind up with left over trees the Micropolis Reforestation League can always put them to good use. see ya. garth

Hey, could you send over the Tiger hunting team? I think one just passed by my house. If you don't hear from me again you'll know what happened. Don't worry I'll tell my family not to sue.
