Panavia/British Aerospace Tornado F3 ADV
About this creation
Features:
scale 1/36.
RAF Squadron 43 Leuchars markings.

Specs:
* Engines: 2X RB 199 turbofans
* Thrust: 16410 lbs each
* Max speed: 2.2 Mach
* Length: 18.62m
* Max altitude: 50,000ft
* Span: 8.6m
* Aircrew: 2
* Armament: 4 ASRAAMs, 4 AMRAAMs, Mauser 27mm

First I've made a MLCAD model to see if it were possible to build it properly.
Since, there were a few changes with the real bricks version because of structural problems and improvements.
For example I've added movable dorsal airbrakes and I've changed the engine exhausts because the scala parts weren't available.
Old Light grey and light bluish grey are mixed for the same reasons : some parts aren't easily available. I don't want to buy on Bricklink just for a couple of parts I can't find on Toy Brick Brigade, my favourite store.
The trickiest parts were the main retractable landing gear because it interfered with the plane structure and the structure itself.
The whole structure must be as light as possible because of the landing gear. It's quite sturdy but it can't support 10 Kg of Legos!
To prevent the moving wings from going forward too far was a challenge too. Now they are just like the real ones thanks to Mrs Jumper Plate.
The canopy was not easy to build properly because lack of practice.

Enough talk Folks, now enjoy the pictures!

MegaBloks pilot from Eurofighter Set. Scale 1/36, pilot's size is 1m70.

Mauser 27mm on the starboard side.

Full armament but no underwing tanks.

The jumper plates prevent the moving wings from going forward too far.

I think this nosecone looks better for your Tornado. If you roll up a few pictures to the one where the cone is taken of, you have a 1-stud section lying on the table, change it to Black, and I guess you would have the perfect nosecone.

Quoting Steffen Kasteleiner Thanks for your comments, John! Well, those jet engines are already mounted to the wings - if you want, you can see them and the rest of the existing plane structure in the WIP I posted. You would also get an impression of how the entire thing will look later... round about, cause I of course will experiment with a lot of things once I continue building... To your Tornado: Looks very nice, especially the fine nose and even the Megablox canopy (Iīd prefer Lego solutions, but I know thatīs too often a compromise as well).
Well,Stephen, It's not a MegaBloks canopy (this time) but a home made canopy... :-)

Quoting Steffen Kasteleiner Tastes are always different, and we all have our own one... The two of us disagree in at least some of our building preferences ("how things should look" - the F-90 is ficticious... but not this far off of aerodynamic standarts I thought) as well as the "pedagogic" understanding of the rating system , but thatīs alright. Itīs not like weīd have to agree... Steffen
It's OK Stephen, everybody has the right to have his own opinion. It's called Democracy.

Quoting Khashayar Nouroozi Awesome! Can you tell me how to find out the scale? I'm making an F-22 witch is 1 stud=1.07 feet? Can you tell me what scale it would be?
1 feet = 1 stud or 3 studs = 1 m : roughly 1/43. That's minifig scale.

i know what you can do to make the hardpoints moveable,make the top surface of them studless exept for one stud, and then place a round or square single stud and you could twist them when you move the wings.Great plane btw.

Quoting Adam Travis Nice work, as always. I'm a tad disappointed that you didn't get the weapons on the wing pylons to move, but that's minor stuff. Great work.
the wing pylons do move : so don't be disappointed...:-) I just forget to move them the right way on the landing gear pics...
