Day One from BrickWorld 2009 . . Day one of BRICKWORLD 2009! We were not allowed to start setting up our mocs till after 4:00pm so a few of us decided to volunteer our services to help get things going. In the main pic here (as if you didn't know their mugs by now, is Mark Kelso and Brian Kescenovitz. But, once that was done, it was time to have a little fun. We gathered all the AFOLs we could and crammed everyone into the few cars we had available and headed off to... LegoLand Discovery Center! Let's see if I can get every one here... from left to right: Me, Nannan, Dean Hofmeyer, Dennis Price (on his knees in front of us as usual), Matija Grguric, Kevin Koehler, Brian kescenovitz, Jordan Scwarz (Not Sir Nadroj, different guy), Dr. Lee Jones, Mark Kelso and Scott Wardlaw. Next to Scott is his girlfriend and I'm so sorry that I forgot her name. Feel free to flog me tomorrow. (EDIT: I talked to Scott and his lovely wife Trina yesterday... Yeap, there was a joke there about his wife not liking the idea of him going to LegoLand with his girlfriend. *Slaps forehead* SORRY TRINA!) But before the group headed into LegoLand, time for lunch! Mmmmm, Chipotle. No sooner were we in the front door than Lee was on this guys lap. Didn't take him long to try getting frisky with the natives. Oh dear, if good old Albert only knew what morons were in his presence. Not including Nannan of course, but the rest of em... Oh, and now we know why Einstein was so popular with the ladies. I walked in and found Brian, Mark and Lee plotting to take over the world. They decided starting with this minifig scale version of downtown Chicago may be the easiest way to begin and just about all they could handle right now. And here's Mr. Kelso dreaming of the ship he could build with just half of the bricks here within his grasp. I kept trying to tell him not to play with his joystick in public but he just wouldn't listen. Here's a pic of me, taking a pic of Nannan... taking a pic of me... taking a pic of, oh, never mind. Eye of the tiger Dennis, eye of the tiger. Brian of course was smitten with what he thought were builds of his extended family. Word of advice people, if he ever offers to groom you, decline... politely. And all of us were wondering just what exactly this frog was up too before we got there. He wasn't really that hungry of a hippo to begin with, but when presented with AFOL surprise, what self respecting semi aquatic mammal could resist? Matija here trying to get a little head from the crocodile... moving on. Come in to my web said the spider to the AFOL. "I am Batman." "Oh my gawd! I loved you in King Soloman's Mines!" Yeah, we didn't have the heart to tell him either. Word of advice. Never tell a sith lord that his light saber is just overcompensating for a lack of something else. Next, it was on to the Dragon Ride. At first, I was upset that the Sterling's weren't able to make it, but then I saw this sign and realized that someone would have had to hold Dave's hand and it sure wasn't going to be me! Of course I got stuck next to Kescenovitz who fell asleep on my shoulder (wait till he posts the pic, you'll see what I mean). And as you can see, Brian was not too impressed with "Sparky" here. Word to the wise. Never take a nap when your friends are building a lion with Duplo. You may wake up like this. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes. It's dark, and we're wearing 3-D glasses. Hit it. After LegoLand, it was time to head back to start setting up for the convention. Of course, THE almighty "Lord Kelso" brought his own director's chair. Which on it's own, wasn't too bad. But then... To stroke his ever inflating ego even more, he had Brian dust the thing off for him before he would sit in it! I guess it's fitting that chairs are designed just for what Kelso is... I'll let you figure that joke out on your own. Fourth Wall Commentary: And that's it from me for day one of BrickWorld 09! I unfortunately had to leave for work before the end of the day. I'm sure Nannan or someone will have another post so you can all see what I missed. Alrighty, time to get some sleep tonight and head back first thing in the morning for day 2 of the world's BEST LEGO convention, BRICKWORLD!
