Elerian Explorer . Although the Elerians are not as technologically advanced as many of their galactic neighbors, they are spread out over many light years. They have small colonies, outposts, and monasteries on numerous worlds. One other thing that the Elerians are noted for is their cunning ability for exploration and for navigation. Of the various types of vessels used by the Elerians, their small explorer ships are renown for their ruggedness, and the small crews of these ships are known for their hardiness. These ships are crewed by 2-4 brave souls who spend months flying from one system to another exploring and running scientific scans. Their pay off comes when they find yet another favorable world for their people, or a new navigational pathway. .
Some would call this ship, oh let's say, "blocky". The Elerians would call it sturdy. This ship is equipped with better sensors and communications than regular Elerian vessels, and features more favorable living accomodations for its crew.
The cargo hold, with its cargo door at the rear of the ship, holds supplies for the small crew that can last up to six months. The sleeping quarters are spartan, to say the least. But the small crew accomodations are sufficient, and the science lab, located directly behind the cockpit (and is actually an extension of the cockpit), is fully equipped for multi-role exploration.
The third engine allows for more speed and power. The ship may look 'clunky', but it is surprisingly fast and powerful which can be necessary when encountering "local color".
Not every race lives on earth-like planets. The Elerians prefer cold planets, planets locked in an ice age, or those further from their companion star. There are a surprisingly large number of such planets that fit this description, as not all planets fall perfectly into the "habitable zone" around stars.
