Times Square . . This model of Times Square is over 5 feet wide, 4 feet tall, and contains over 20,000 LEGO pieces. It took about 300 hours to build. Construction of the model was made possible by Samsung. Come see it! This model is on display at Samsung Experience Store The Shops at Columbus Circle 1 Columbus Circle New York, NY USA Map & directions I've always wanted to create a model of Times Square, but I was particularly inspired when the city recently closed Broadway to automobiles and turned Times Square into an amazing new public plaza. I wanted to capture the bustle and excitement of the new public space, while still poking fun of the overall glitz and cheesiness of this part of town. Giant billboards, flashing lights and video screens, logos and signs, flashy colors... everything competes for your attention. There's even a lot of "real New York" vignettes throughout the display that add a bit of local flair. ... Spiderman keeps the city safe! Harry Potter and a Stormtrooper have a chat in the new pedestrianized Times Square. Hey! Don't stop in the middle of the crosswalk! ...and how can you forget the Naked Cowboy? Our cycling PSA guy is still up to his clumsy tricks... Has LEGO Steve Jobs graced our LEGO Times Square?? We are honored! Hi, Steve! The digital screens in the Two Times Square building really work! Unveiling This display was installed at the Time Warner Center in Manhattan, and unveiled at a LEGO playtime event on December 5, 2009. Hundreds of people came by to see the unveiling, to build their own fun LEGO creations, and to get a signed copy of my new book, "Cool Cars and Trucks". Under construction Here are some pictures of the model as it was in-progress. The whole display took over 300 hours to complete! And in case you're wondering how I got those flashing dancing lights all over the model? Christmas lights. :)
