Ache and Jin'Tak continued to follow the natives.
Ache was getting worse by the minute.
Finally, they were led into some decaying rocks.
They came down the stairs into a large open room.
One of the natives began talking to the others.
Ache: What are we doing here? How do we know these creatures don't mean to harm us?
Jin'Tak: I've been around them before. They're the ones who showed me I was tainted. I was a prisoner, but they showed me hospitality nonetheless.
Ache: And how do we know they undertsand us?
Ache heard a course voice coming behind him: Because we have learned the common language of humans.
Ache turned around to see the chief coming from a nearby room.
Chief: I know what it is you are here for. Get on the table. Our healing-mother will help you.
Ache got on the table. One of the natives walked toward him.
She placed his gear on the floor.
She took a crystal from the rocks...
and walked back toward Ache.
She waved the crystal above him...
and it melted, disappearing on his skin.
The healing-mother stepped back and nodded at the chief.
Jin'Tak: Ache? How do you feel?
Ache: Better. The taint is gone.
Ache: How do your people know how to cure the effects of those creatures?
Chief: Because we have dealt with them before.
Jin'Tak: What are they?
Chief: They are our creations. The Exiled.
Long ago, our ancestors flourished in that city not far from here. These demons were used as slaves.
Our forefathers made books to create and control them. They were unlike any other demons...
but things got out of hand. The slaves turned on their masters and war broke out.
So our ancestors stored all the books in a hidden library.
All but one.
One last book was kept and used to banish the demons into a portal underground.
Not long after, your kind arrived and pushed us to the brink of extinction. We were forced to hide in the caverns we created all over these lands.
Ache: So you're the Ancients... I'm sorry that happened, but what's done is done.
Just because our ancestors were enemies, doesn't mean we have to be. We need you to help us destroy those books.
Chief: And why should we help you?
Jin'Tak: To bring peace to these lands.
Two men have used these books to become Severed. They now wage war upon my kin, and yours should they get the chance. If we can destroy the books, we can put an end to their regin.
Chief: Very well. Bring our healing-mother with you. She will be able to diminish the power of the books.
Jin'Tak: Thank you, your highness.
The group continued to leave the underground room and onto the journey ahead of them.
After days of traveling and searching, they found the library Irrek had discovered and talked about.
But something was wrong...
Now you can see what the story has been building up to. The book's origins have been revealed, as well as the mysteries of the Ancients and their past. The black creatures have been given a name, and we now know where they came from. Hope you liked this chapter! More are still on the way!
