MVA fire apparatus involved. 03-31-2010 . . This morning around 9.30 AM a car driving on the I-40 wanted to pass a slow moving vehicle, but overlooked it. The car crashed into TA-1 the SVFD's Academy Engine, who was returning from a demonstration at the local highschool. The car flipped over and came to a rest on its roof, the 2 man crew of TA-1 acted quickly and called for backup. Batt.1, Engine 13 and Rescue 5 rolled out at 9.36 AM for a MVA. Squad 17 was alerted too, but was called back to station because the PD reported there was only one driver trapped. On scene the crews started to stabilise the flipped vehicle, and prepared for a extrication, cause the driver was unresponsive and was believed to be trapped in the vehicle. and took care of the driver of the Training Engine, who was in schock. SVMS Ambulance 1 and 2 arrived at the scene right after the FD. The paramedics assesed the condition of the drivers, and they called in Med-1 for further medical assistance for the trapped driver. The Captain who was also in the Academy Engine, was checked out by paramedics, but he was fine. Because there was a fire apparatus involved the Fire Chief came on scene too. The Engine driver was taken to hospital at 10.05 AM with a bad schock, but is believed to leave the hospital tomorrow. At 10.10 AM the FD and Ambo crews extricated the last victim, and they rushed him to hospital where he sadly died of his injuries short after arrival. FF's where a bit shook up, but they did a great job. Both vehicles where towed away for the Police investigation. The car was totalled and damage on the Engine is assesed but is believed to be a write off. No further civilian and firefighter injuries where reported.
