Makuta Zarak was a lieutenant in the Makuta Army. During the Dark Hunter/Makuta War, Zarak and other Makuta fought against thousands of Dark Hunters. On the Island of Raki Nui, (A large Volcano, populated by Ta-Matoran and their two Toa Protectors) Zarak came across a young Toa named Krallox.. Makuta Zarak encased him in solidified protodermis, and the Toa was later covered by avalanches, volcanic eruptions, and landslides. Makuta Zarak later lead his forces to Victory on the island, and was rewarded dominion over the new territory of the Brotherhood. He was also given a Kahgarak, a species of Visorak, as a pet. He later used this pet as a guardian, and used it's venom to enhance his Rahkshi. Makuta Zarak used the island as a base for experimentation on Rahi and Rahkshi, while the Matoran that used to live on the island were forced to live inside of the volcano. Makuta Zarak allowed them to continue life in the volcano, because they couldn't do anything to harm him. And any thoughts of rebellion were crushed by the Rahkshi Raiders Zarak sent every once in a while to steal any supplies that he could use. Thousands of years passed, and a Toa came to challenge Zarak, After a long battle, the Toa succeeded in killing Zarak, freeing the Matoran of the Volcano. They then moved to the surface, where they could return to the lives they used to live..
