The Black Pearl (version 2) . I have quite a lot of spare time for building now so i decided to redo one of my biggest layouts ever- The Maelstrom battle from Potc 3- new Pirates is coming 2011 and it inspired me also- oh i hope lego will release potc line next year- anyway i made Pearl of my own... this baby took nearly a month to finish because weather was so darn hot- even here in Finland... now it's ready- but i fear that Dutchman will take nearly an another month.... . as you can see- my "studio" was too little for her ... As title says this is version 2- my previous Pearl was in fact bigger than this but i disliked it's blocky shape- this one is more shiplike i think.... side of the ship- i invented new technique for ship hull :D and then custom cannons... lego should make smaller cannons i think... Bow- i know it could be more accurate but i didn't have better slopes or curved parts- also i though that purist built angel figurehead is better than some custom one- wings are too big but best wings i have... and yeah pigeon should fly too... but lego never made flying bird part... windows of stern were hardest part of the ship- i didn't have right kind of windows so i had to improvise... also i didn't have enough little arches... so i used inverted slopes... not entirely accurate but best i could do... my first Pearl had bigger deck but well i still think this is better... capstan turns around if there is no cannon near it... well i didn't had enough space for all cannons this time... capstan as hoist- it don't really work very well though.... door for captain's cabin lanterns and decorations of stern... another side has no real cannons... Stern- ok i know window's shapes are wrong... but side windows were too small so i though that i will make back windows bigger... i didn't had good parts for those windows so i used square shaped ones and added arches above them.. ok not perfect but best i could do... rudder... without figures jolly roger masts topside of the poopdeck (as it's really called XD) can be removed and it reveals captains cabin- there is table like we see in the movies and well apple for Barbossa of course.... wheel and bell... a deck... pretty cramped... but ships really were I like this grate technique- grates are too thick but look good- and they can be removed... here is lower deck- i built interior to be as accurate as possible... but because it's so hard to take this thing apart it's easier to show insides before i made masts and all.... so i pictured insides already when building them Jack's rum cellar and ship's brig for prisoners.... and even a little kitchen :D army of custom minifigs i made... i am not best in customizing them but i had to... they turned out pretty well actually... at least i think so... surprisingly well for my figs Will and Elizabeth - Will is older one i made for smithery... Tamina will do for Liz.. she is only one without custom face.... decal is chinese outfit she used during that battle... Jack is older fig too and new Mr. Gibbs.. he is bit pale though... Marty and Cotton -with his parrot of course.. ok - limegreen one was the best parrot i had Tia Dalma- i don't really need her in my dio but i still made her- a sea goddess bound in legoform... :O perhaps first custom fig of her made at least i haven't seen any.... Ragetti and Pintel (Ragetti has eye patch like he had during the maelstrom battle) Barbossa- he is also older fig and Jack the Monkey too... I even customized some equipment- well jack's compass is old one i made before- and Sao Feng's mystic map There really is a map inside... I changed the bow after those pictures here is the new one- now it's not as stubby as in those previous pics
