Why?
Big Technic Top Fuel Dragster . Just a little model of granny's runabout.. . There exists a class of drag racing where the numbers are incredible.. Some facts you may not know about top fuel dragsters (thanks Wikipedia) The engines in these run on 90% Nitromethane. This has a lower energy density than petrol but can be burnt with much less air mixed with it - if it's forced into the engine by a supercharger running at 5 bar at a rate of 100 gallons a minute the engine can produce 10,000 horsepower - until it blows up. I'll be making an entry for an eco car competition in 'For The Love of Cars' - this isn't it... These machines can do a standing quarter mile in less than 4.5 sec, reaching terminal speeds of more than 330mph. They'll accelerate from 0-100mph in 0.7 sec, with an accelerative force of around 6g. The engine is a 500 cu.in. (around 8.2 litres) V8 (of course) that can be expected to complete 3 runs or so before it blows. These dragsters are quite long - 125 studs in this case. I'm not sure getting Granny to drive it was a good idea.. This model doesn't have my usual raft of Technic features - it has working steering and the engine you may recognise from previous MOCs - this is driven by the wheels at 9x axle speed to produce a satisfying noise when it's pushed along. The engine is also easily removable. That motor is a V8 made using old square pistons with four chain driven camshafts whirring around and a belt driven supercharger. It's been the featured engine in the 'V8' group. It needs all the steering lock it can get with that wheelbase.. Ready to blast off. Hold on tight, gran!
