Illigal fireworks explosion kills 2. . .
Today at 06.00, there was a loud explosion followed by a bunch of fireworks.
SVPD localised the explosion to one of the cottages outside of town.
SVFD was requested to the scene.
Squad 31, Ladder 31 and Battalion 3, went to the location and found the cottage to be fully engulfed by flames.
A woman was sitting by the garage door, she told the firefighters her boyfriend and his buddy were still inside.
The woman was stabilised and transported to the hospital with shock and mild burns.
At the same time Squad 31 reported problems with the nearest hydrant, it was frozen so there was no steady flow of water.
Battalion 3 gave a sizeup to a 3rd alarm.
Tanker 3, Rescue 6, Engine 14, Engine 32 and SOC 1 where requested on the scene.
Codyville Tanker 1, Mt. Lego Tanker 139 and Lego County Tanker 4 were also requested on scene for water supply.
While BVFR Engine 17 went to station 3 for coverage.
Tanker 3 and Engine 14 found a fully working hydrant further down the street, so primary attack could begin.
The crew from Squad 31 had a hard time fighting the fire from the inside.
A combined group of firefighters from Ladder 31 and Rescue 6 entered the structure to look for the 2 missing men.
At 6.23 am, the first body was found.
The 31 year old friend of the couple who owned the cottage was found severly burned, and was pronounced dead by the on scene paramedics.
A few minutes later the second man was found, SVFD paramedics and SV EMS started to reanimate the man, witch was rushed to hospital with heavy burns.
After the last victim was brought outside the interior attack was pulled back, and Ladder 31 used both its bucket nozzles to fight the fire from above.
With the help of the Mutual aid tankers, the fire was brought under control very fast, and at 9.13 am, overhaul begun.
At 10.45 am all units could return to their stations.
The cottage was completely destroyed.
The fire is believed to be started by a cigarette, that was dropped by some boxes of illigal fireworks hidden in the cottage.
Witnesses saw a white delivery van flee the scene right after the explosion, PD has the case under investigation.
The male victim who was rushed to the hospital, later died of his injuries.
The female victim is in stable condition, and will make a full recovery.
No firefighter injury's where reported.
