Odds and Ends . Hey everyone, W. Mark here, throwing garbage at my monsters in the hopes they'll shut up. It worked somewhat better for Bill Watterson. . First off, my apologies to everyone that's favorited me on the 'pages... I've been too busy to build lately, a situation which frustrates me to no end. Hopefully I'll be able to cut back my workload in the near future, but until then you won't be seeing more than the occasional comment from me. Thanks for your patience.
Next, my apologies for the quality of these builds... some are from as far back as my KFOL years, and all are from before I finally got the hang of taking stills. Have some band-aids ready for your eyeballs.
This first one is part of what would have been my entry for Luke Chapman's "Massive Wangle" vignette contest. I had a runway scene featuring this revamp of an old, old F-18 Hornet model of mine. I was pretty happy with the fighter, but I can't say the same for the rest of the scene. I don't like using bare baseplates like I did here, and I had run out of green plates with which to improve them. I learned some valuable lessons from the build, but ultimately it didn't make the cut.
Here's a really old one of mine... check out those KFOL building skills. I never would have considered uploading this build to the 'pages, but as I was scanning my pictures this shot in particular really stood out to me. I liked the framing, and the build itself gave me some serious nostalgia. I decided to share it here to find out if it reminded any of the rest of you of your KFOL days as strongly as it did for me.
This is nearly as old as the little yellow car. Studs-up, extremely sparse use of anything SNOT, no tiles, etc. The wing-shaped plates on the deck were still brand-new when I built it. Cheese slopes and bley didn't exist then.
Despite the simple look of this build, it was probably the best thing I had ever built at that point. It was my first time ever doing any sculpting... the hull was extensively sculpted, and it's a shame I never photographed it. The little aircraft were my first serious attempt at microscale... they were far from the best, but as an excercise they've had an influence on many of my builds since.
Well, that's enough rambling about the good ol' days for now. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to building soon. Until then,
