M16A2 (1:1) [Improved] . My LEGOŽ brick-built M16 replica, updated as of November 2011 and ready for battle! . A lifesize model of the M16A2 assault rifle featuring a pull-back trigger, removeable magazine, and moving "fire-selector switch." The weapon now sports a much better muzzle brake, stronger handle, and curved trigger. [November 20, 2011 update: I have now made the pistol grip slightly thinner and strengthened it, have improved the handguard around the barrel, redesigned the ejector port cover so that it easily opens and closes, and have inserted a 'working' cocking handle as well.]
[Overall dimensions: 39.6" long, 2" wide, and 9.75" high. Overall weight: 2.6 lbs.] First completed on June 9, 2010.
[Here you can see my modified handle design; the pistol grip better follows the contours of the stock and receiver and is much stronger--I can now hold the rifle here one-handed.]
[Visible here is the new cocking handle, pulled back (there's no tension on it).]
[I've added more ridges to the handguard to make it more realistic; now if only I could eliminate the bricks completely and use smooth, curved slopes...Or, for fun, replace this with an M203 mounting. Hmmm...]
[In this version of the model, I've gone back in and redesigned the front post sight, adding an inner prong to better simulate the 'look-down' experience of the model; now I'm thinking that I need to change the rear sight and add an aperture before I truly get it right!]
[Below are two photos of an older version of the model to illustrate the gun's removeable magazine...]
[...And the connection point between the buttstock and receiver which helps make the 39.6" gun more portable.]
Thanks for looking; now go build something better!
