Balrog of Morgoth . The balrog was a creation of the first Dark Lord, Morgoth. Sauron was Morgoth's apprentice and warrior, before Morgoth's defeat. Sauron's greatest achievement was his One Ring, but Morgoth's greatest achievment was arguably his Balrog. . I was gazing at the pure awesomeness of Hopeso 009's Cave Troll when I decided I needed to utilize those wonderful instructions he posted. But I couldn't bring myself to just copy his work and call it a creation. So I racked by brain for the closest thing to a lumbering Cave Troll. Then replayed the Mines of Moria in my head and thought: FIRE! Firey Cave trolls. I settled on the greatest firey cave-troll of them all - the BALROG!
After much work, the only things left from Hopeso 009's troll are the joints in the arms, the attaching technique on the legs, and the slope on the torso. The color scheme, wings, head, limb details, feet, upper arms, and misselaneous tweakings were of my own design. Enjoy!
This is the head, which I am very pleased with. It is purely of my own design.
The back of the head that shows how I attatched the wings. Also my own design.
The lower body which takes its funcions and side bricks from Hopeso's cave troll. The middle and colors are my own workings.
My whip. I strung bunches of pieces on flexible tubing from the 2004 Cloud City set.
The upper body which is the part that uses most of Hopeso's design. The pieces and colors are my own, but the design kudos go to Hopeso 009.
Here is how I constructed the Legs.
The wings, from the 2010 Battle of Endor set.
My second artistic photo.
So after much deliberation, I decided I had so drastically altered Hopeso 009's base design I could call it my own creation. Fear the Balrog of Morgoth!
