Black Tail VTOL . A single pilot VTOL gunship. . The Black Tails are a VTOL gunship that are primarily used to provide air support to ground forces. It features twin, counter-rotating propellers in the wings for vertical take off and near hovering capabilities. It also has twin jet engines fixed under the wing where they connect with the body of the craft. The front of features a rotating and tilting chain gun that tracks with the pilots line of sight when activated. There are 2 missile pods featuring a mix of anti-personnel and/or anti-armor missiles. Laser canons are mounted on the end of the wings. Finally, there is a .50 cal machine gun at the tail to thwart attacks from behind. The first two shots shows the rear landing gear down. I am pretty happy with this build. It presented some challenges as I wanted to make it as smooth as possible to work on my SNOT skills. I wasn't able to make the cockpit seal snugly to the ship, but I wanted to use this particular cockpit, so I was willing to make that sacrifice. I also tried to put a true propeller into the wings, but the circle openings I was able to create with arch pieces were either too large for the radar dishes or too small to realistically provide the lift needed for the VTOL. I hope you enjoy it.
