2007 Smeal Rescue Pumper . This is a 2007 Smeal Rescue Pumper built on a Spartan Gladiator Classic Chassis with a 12 inch raised roof. It is powered by a Cummins 425 HP engine with an Allison 3000EVS Transmission. It has a 1500 gpm Hale pump and a 500 gallon water tank. . In 1955, Donald Smeal opened his repair shop in Snyder, Nebraska, his home town, and named his new business Smeal Implement Company. In 1963, Snyder Rural Fire Board asked Don to fix a leak in the tank of its fire truck. The tank was beyond repair. Smeal was a volunteer firefighter and had another idea in mind; he built them a new truck. Soon other communities were requesting that Smeal build fire apparatus for them. From this humble beginning Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. was born. Today, Smeal has dealers throughout the United States and Canada and offers a full line of firefighting apparatus including aerial ladder and platforms as well as pumpers and tankers. Smeal manufactures its own aerial devices and its own Sirius custom cab forward chassis. However, many Smeal trucks are built with Spartan or HME cabs and chassis. Don Smeal died in 2004 but the company is still family owned and operated by the third generation of the Smeal family in their modern 200,000 square foot plant in Snyder, Nebraska.
