Africa / G.A.I.A. "Spitting Cobra" Mk IV . Good day everybody, may I introduce you to the prosperous nation of South Africa, an important ally of the Ethiopian Empire on itīs way to the stars. This alliance was one reason for the Ethiopianīs great head start in space exploration and colonisation, with South Africa being rich on natural resources, like diamonds and other treasures of the soil, as a source of money. In return, the Ethiopians shared their formidable technological knowledge with South Africa. Specialised in finding planets rich on resources and valuable minerals, South Africa could always afford the newest state of the art high technologies. On the civilian sector, as well as on the military. By the outbreak of the third alien war the "Spitting Cobra" Mk IV was the crown of south african fighter engineering. . This fighter is being built in coopertion by "RMC Aeronautics" and "SAADS - South African Air Defense Systems". The design derives from Borderworld Engineeringīs "Lughnasadh Fire". With the integration of the sirian worlds into the G.A.I.A., RMC Aeronautics has taken over Borderworld Engineering and all designs were being produced under the new name.
The "Spitting Cobra" Mk IV shared several design aspects with the GAIA "Lughnasadh Fire" .
One of these things was an included FTL-drive.
It has a similar three engine arrangemant, like the Lughnasadh Fire, but with two of them attached externally to the body. A tribute to size and power. Also, if being hit or malfunctioning the two external engines colud easily be jettisoned.
Another parallel to the "Lughnasadh Fire" is the use of canards on this design.
An excellent performing fighter in low altitude...
...and high above the clouds!
Preparing a death-roll, ftw!
Flying side by side with a "Lughnasadh Fire" Mk II(!)
The pilots seem to do a little racing above the earth. No matter who wins in the end, this may become a photo finish!
Dogfighting with a Draggone "Komodo Dragon" .
The split nose (like a snakeīs tongue) allows a better forward view.
That cowardly b*s*a*d simply jumped away! Well, letīs enjoy the view...
The snakeīs head. Be careful, she bites!
Note the golden barley head on red ground, the sign of the alliance between Ethiopia and South Africa.
One of my favourite views!
Some impressions of the engines...
...with head up display, mission computer...
"Get out of sight, please!"
...and a comfortable seat!
(Please excuse the crappy, badly made up pseudo hangar. I wish I had the parts for a real one, but this is at least better than just plain white.)
Thierry Onwuzuruike, South Africaīs best pilot!
No one hates the Draggone more than him. He was once captured by a Draggone scientist, who tuned him into that what he is now!
And by shooting down as much Draggone as possible he will make every one of them pay for what has happened to him!
