Hellion MKII . Designed to be in support larger units and mechanized infantry instead of mech to mech combat, the Hellion MkII sports a light chassis and minimal firepower. With an emphasis on speed and maneuverability, the Hellion has become a favorite among reconnaissance units. . Taking advantage from gains in armor technology, the MkII maintains the original speed and maneuverability of its ancestor with the added benefits of a more advanced electronics package. An improved sensor pod located under the canopy in addition to two full-rotating camera ports allow for unprecedented intelligence gathering and battlefield awareness. Over-sized antennae arrays can broadcast gathered information on a continent-wide scale while at the same time controlling communications through secure multi-channel systems. The system can double as a "SLAVE" unit directing friendly lance movement as well as fire support from land/orbital systems. The MkII still maintains the same basic and reliable weapon configuration as before. The updated version of the Multi-Role Missle Platform, or MRMP/2 allows for a variety of different munition systems depending on battlefield conditions and pilot preference. A variety of missiles are available from parachute flares, anti-personnel, to anti-light armor/'mech missiles Taking a page from aviation history, the MkII also sports a 30mm high rate of fire auto cannon for infantry support and last ditch armor defense. Enough ammunition is stored for 20 seconds of continuous fire on-board the weapon system. The GAU-70 30mm Rotary Auto-cannon sits balanced on an isolated platform to prevent excessive vibration from interfering with sensitive electronics and rattling the pilot's nerves. The demands of such a power-hungry 'mech such as the MKII require not only a small and light unit but one that can operate at peak performance near constantly. The Hermes 100 "Lite" RITEG power plant has proven reliable in meeting such needs. (For those that don't know, a RITEG or Radioisotope thermoelectric generator, is what currently powers deep-space vessels built by NASA here and now. Lets pretend in the future they have much more efficient models. I'm not even going to touch fusion.) The rear protective dome for the power plant can be seen here along with the electronics add-on systems and antennae arrays. Cowboys need not apply, candidate pilots must be highly organized, calm and collected under pressure, and have intimate knowledge of the systems they will be utilizing. They are the third eye of the task force. Sensitive electronics and high heat place demanding maintenance needs on units. Cutting the electronics package however can extent the MkII's time in battle indefinably. Limited by merely the pilot's skill and ammunition stored. ----------------------------- Pfft, fake future crap... I built this as a revamp of a model built a while ago but wasn't quite pleased with the out come. For reference, you can see two photos of it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/51342644@N02/4962440990/in/photostream I've already had some commentary elsewhere about this resembling previous well known creations. Well...its not a copy I can assure you. I build how I view something will be practicality wise in the future. Yes, I did take the idea of the four-barreled gatling style gun from mondayn00dle's Icon class mech (I couldn't resist, it was too awesome and fit the role perfectly for this design.) Hope you enjoy!
