MO:R2 Thoy Bradley vs Chris Roach "Checkmate" . This is my entry for the MOC Olympics Round Two, Category - Build a Chess Set. . My mandatory link to the MOCOlympics Homepage And my mandatory link to the homepage of my very worthy opponent Chris Roach. He is very well known for his fantastic Transformers MOCs, and his entry for Round 1 shows that he is comfortable in any genre of Moccing! Heres to hoping that i've done whats needed to make sure none of you have to face him ;) So seeing as I had to build a Chess set for my entry I thought, why not make it a bit more exciting, make it feel like a battle rather than a mind game, give the pieces character and not just static placeholders! I present to you all - my Chess set! Theme is the Kings Army vs the Undead Hordes. This model is called Checkmate, as I thought it was fitting for the category and nature of this competition ;) To emphasize this I have set the board up in the fastest possible way to Check-Mate an opponent - it takes 2 moves from White and two moves from Black for the White King to be Check-Mated. Pf2-f3 Pe7-e6 Pg2-g4 Qd8-h4+M Follow these moves to do it yourself ;) Enjoy! Now Lets take a closer look at the playing pieces for comparison sake! First up - the Rook This design was inspired by the classic Tower appearance that the classic Rook had, Towers = Archers! Second up - the Knight Also inspired by the classic Knight, a horse. Rather than just stand there looking boring why not ATTACK! We have a battle to win! Third up - the Bishop In the classic set-up these are tall tower shapes, similar to the King and Queen, only the Bishops have a helmet - much like the ones used in Fencing Duels. While the Black Bishop is exactly as I had envisioned the White one was originally going to have a gold cross in its hand - I only had one gold cross piece so FLAG that! Forth - the Pawn Nothing special here, just a minnow who can progress the ranks to become a Queen - but what if its a male Pawn?? Not now sonny... Fifth - the King Clothed in Royalty this guy is the objective of the game, quite often the tallest piece on the board he is hard to miss! I've gone for a look similar to the Bishop, but with some very worthy changes to the throne ;) Lastly - the Queen! Because every Begginer in Chess loves her versatility - careful not to get her trapped though! Sitting on an identical throne to her King, she is armed with powers beyond the understanding of the other pieces - the King is even so unaware! If he hadn't eaten so many meat pies and could move than one square at a time he might have found out what the Queen did in her spare time! Now the family shots! Very fitting! CHECKMATE! 4th wall: Man this was a fun category!
