M.O. Round 5: George G. vs Thoy Bradley . George G. vs Thoy Bradley in the category "Theme Mash-Up" . For Round 5 of the 2011 MOC Olympics me and Thoy Bradley had to build in the category “Theme Mash-Up”: “Fabulantis? Space Paradisia? What else can we smash together to make a new LEGO theme? Create a “set” to show the brilliance of your new theme.” Thoy has already posted his entry which is absolutely amazing, enough to make my draw drop when I saw it :) When I received the category, I was excited yet overwhelmed at the same time – there are so many different options to choose from! Unlike Thoy, whose collection is mostly made up of a couple of themes, I mostly have different themes but only around 1 or 2 sets from each theme so I had to come up with an idea that didn’t really use specific pieces (such as Pirate Boat pieces or Prince of Persia decorative elements :P). After or day or two, I came up with this idea… “Pharaoh’s Conquest” – a mixture of “Pharaoh’s Quest” and “Alien Conquest”! I got the idea from a) The category in last year’s MOC Athalon about Ancient Alien Theories and b) that scene from the end of Indiana Jones 4. Basically, some Aliens build a UFO around an ancient structure, which in this case is an Egyptian burial tomb. The name of the set I created is “The Alien Mummyship!” Get it, it’s like “Mothership” but because the Egyptians had “Mummies” I replaced “Mother” with “Mummy” because they mean the same thing and – oh man I’m alone :’( Now it’s time for the theme’s storyline, like the ones that you get on the Themes page on the LEGO website: Back in 1924, Jake Raines and his crew defeated Amset-Ra and his mummy warriors, sending them back into their tombs without any supper. In 2011, the ADU defeated those slimy green aliens and sent them back to their own planet. But on their way to the other galaxy, one of the aliens dropped a spanner and it just happened to fall in the works :) The ship broke and hurtled back to Earth, crashing into Egypt and landing in Amset-Ra’s burial tomb. Amset-Ra woke from his slumber and the Aliens’ ship was destroyed. The mummies talked to the aliens, and they both discovered that they wanted revenge against the humans. The aliens rebuilt their ship in the tomb as well as they could but didn’t have an electrically power source to start it up. However, they did have Amset-Ra’s Golden Staff (which can produce power, somehow. I’d explain the science behind you but I think the amazingness of it would just detract from the model)! Their ship may be shabby, and it may look incomplete due to the limited amount of resources available to them, but it’s good enough to conquer Earth! But the great-great-grandson of Jake Raines, Jake Raines Jr Jr Jr and his sidekick Fred are out to stop them! Hired by the ADU, the daring duo fly their attack ship into the battle and deploy the motor-bike for a precision attack! Wait, if Fred’s attacking mummies and Jake’s on the motor-bike, then who’s flying the attack ship!? Is that Professor Archibald Hale sat dead there? What would a LEGO set be without play features? And I don’t mean flick-fire missiles :P - Chase Jake Raines with the service platform (powered by the 9V train motor) - Shoot down the attack ship with the motorised canon! (the video quality is really bad on this clip because I took a test shot on my camera and then the real version on my brothers video camera. The real version didn’t save onto the SD card and it’s dark outside now so I had to use the test version, sorry about that :/) (I can't get the video to embed, both the Flikr and Youtube HTML codes just appear as a white space so I shall provide a link to the video: VIDEO!) Well, now I’m tired. That was a really fun build, but I had to do it quickly because of school. Hopefully when the MOC Olympics are over, I can come back to this model and remake it to be the way I really wanted :) I had you enjoyed my attempt at the category and wish luck to Thoy: good luck! p.s. Sorry about the background, I didn't have enough space to take photos inside so I had to take it in the garden!
