2010 Crimson Transformer Pumper . This is a Crimson Transformer is built on a Spartan Metro Star® chassis with a 10-inch raised roof and a 178-inch wheelbase. It has a 1,250 gpm PTO integrated Darley pump, 750 gallon water tank, Aluminum body, a Cummins ISL 425 hp diesel engine and a Smart Power 6 Kw hydraulic generator. . On April 22, 2010, Crimson introduced the Transformer. The Transformer made its debut that same week at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC), in Indianapolis, Indiana. Unlike traditional mid- or rear-mount pumpers, the Transformer does not have a traditional pump house. The design integrates the pump and manifold system into the body just forward of the rear wheels. This frees up compartment space, reduces the wheelbase and reduces the overall apparatus length. Crimson was launched in 2002 by a consolidation of Luverne Fire Apparatus and Quality Manufacturing. These two companies were acquired by Spartan Motors in 1997. Luverne begin building fire apparatus in 1912 in Luverne, Minnesota. In 1985 Luverne moved operations to Brandon, South Dakota. Quality got its start 1962 in Talladega, Alabama. Spartan was founded in 1976 by a group of engineers who worked at the defunct, Diamond Reo Corporation. Spartan has around 900 employees. Spartan is the world’s largest producer of custom built fire cabs and chassis. Spartan operates facilities in Charlotte, Michigan, Brandon, South Dakota, Marion, South Carolina, Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Wakarusa, Indiana.
