Why?
HAL Garuda . . The HAL Garuda is a next generation stealth bomber. Its designers were not able to reach the same level of stealth as the much older B-2 but because of its much larger size it is able to carry more munitions and electronic gear. The AFC hopes to operate a fleet of ten by the end of February. Three variants of the Garuda will be produced. Five of the fleet will be standard bomb-trucks configured to carry as much munitions as possible. Three will be outfitted with advanced, and powerful radar, jamming and ECM’s. They will effectively be frontline AWACS with the ability to strike surface to air threats themselves with out having to call in a strike package. One of the final two will be an ABL platform designed to counter cruise and ballistic missiles. The last airframe will serve as a test bed to carry drones directly into combat and act as a forward controller for them. It will be undergoing feasibility tests until a small enough drone is designed to be carried by the Garuda. Because of its larger size and more powerful engines it can carry a larger payload while still reaching a top speed of 1 mach.
