As the Last World War reached its climax, reckless moves were made. It became a wild game in which each side attacked remorselessly, abandoning each sanctuary as it was won, to leap once more into the fray. In the rush to discover new chemical weapons to destroy their enemies, both sides began using weapons they did not fully understand. In many areas where the action was highest, such as the London crater, strange things began to happen, especially to the plant life. Inexplicable growth spurts, incredibly increased levels of CO2 consumption and oxygen output, even rumors of plants attacking homes and installations.
Gradually the increased levels of oxygen in the atmosphere took their toll. The billions of people working to support their various armies, and the soldiers in the field became intoxicated. The plants had developed a chemical weapon of their own.
But as there will always be an England there will always be Man. Though the nations crumbled into ruin, and millions piled on millions of people died, there was a small, almost insignificant, fraction of a percent who survived. A few members of the disbanded Air Corps became nomads, scavengers. Their breathing apparatus and aircraft enabled them to live as long as they had air to breathe and fuel to flee. Eventually, after much consideration they set up a fortress inside the ancient (and extremely defensible) structure of Stone Henge. Here they resolved to run no more. Here at Stone Henge, built by humans in the depths of time, and still measuring the days, the hours, the minutes, they survive. Here in Mankind's midwinter, they anticipate the Spring.

Some-wall commentary.
This being my first build of the MOCathalon 2012, I wanted to make it big, make it an example of building that would stand stand through the ages.
So I built Stonehenge, with many hours of deliberation over details in the build (such as the helicopter crop dusting, wind-sock) and the plausibility of the backstory, a couple of late night hilarity filled Skype calls with teammates John 55555, Arkov, I present to you, Stonehenge, Apawk-style.
