Orc Siege Tower . Team G.A.I.A. (Gall-Ample Incorrigible AFOL (coughparringtoncough) in MocAthalon category 5: Lord of the Rings. Enjoy! . Team GAIA
The category asked how I would design a Lord of the Rings set. At first, I was hesitant to take this category, thinking that all there would be to build would be silly little vignettes of Moria and Gondor and such. I'm not much for building castles, so I didn't find this at all appealing. Then it hit me: orc vehicles! Yeah, much more interesting. Bad guys get all the cool stuff.
Gondor Cavalry included to enhance battle potential.
The tower is fairly sturdy, as should be expected for a Lego set.
The tough part was making the build look like it was thrown together by the Orcs while still keeping it be a fairly clean and basic build. Accuracy to the real thing and set-like building style are difficult to balance.
There's a ladder for the Orcs to climb up.
This poor guy is all that's left of the last fortress the Orcs ransacked.
The wheels really spin! Thank you, thank you. Okay, now on to the real features.
The three-leveled tower can fit troops in all stories.
The walls of stories 2 and 3 can be opened for easy access.
Implements o' destruction.
The opened walls can also act as shields to keep arrows off the surrounding army.
And what would a siege tower be if it couldn't get the invaders over a wall?
Turn a crank and down comes the drawbridge!
But wait, that's not all!
Flaming arrows (flick-fire missiles) to clear the way!
The arrows fire simultaneously with the help of a thingy (Thingy: noun. A device that, when pressed, slides along a track until it reaches flick-fire missiles, which are activated for ballistic effect).
The set includes four minifigures, two horses, and a skeleton.
The Orcs laying siege to a smaller set, the Gondor Watchtower.
The Gondor Watchtower is complete with three minifigures (two soldiers and an Orc prisoner), a firing catapult, and a prison cell.
Here we see the prison cell, located inside the open back for increased playability.
The Orc is trapped inside!
Help him escape by activating the eject button!
Gives a whole new meaning to sprung from jail!
The nearly all-tile surface that the cell sits on.
The Orc in his cell.
