Patriot - Class Battleship . A Planetary Union Patriot class Battleship forms the tip of the spear of the tier one navy. Although smaller than dreadnaughts but larger than destroyers, the patriot class Contains the latest systems, advanced firepower and a hanger to launch and service a large variety of fighters and bombers, the Patriot class is a formidable vessel and a key player withing the Planetary Unions navy. (1 stud = 5m) . Bridge: Nerve center and main operations command. It is here that the entire vessel is piloted and managed. Windows provide 360 degree vision around the ship at all times. Main deep space cannons fire 5 tonne depleted uranium shells at extreme velocities that are assisted by state of the art targeting computers. Effective against other vessels as well as surface targets on planets as the shells can survive the buildup of heat caused by the shells punching through the atmosphere. Varieties of munitions are available including a shotgun type shell. The Patriot Class firing main batteries as well as 4 long range "weasel" hunter killer torpedoes. The main antenna transmits and scans through deep space to locate and communicate with other ships. One of the largest antenna on any of the planetary union ships. The two massive nuclear drive engines propel the ship at speeds that allow the ship to outrun most of the enemy cruisers and battleships of similar class. Within this part of the ship contains a class 3 subspace phase shift drive. When activated, the PSD drops the ship out of reality (space time) and accelerates the vessel at speeds that excel that of light. Once the ship has returned to reality, the distance it has instantly covered could be many thousands of light years. The main hanger allows the Patriot class to assist as a light carrier and play a key role in direct frontal assaults. Being able to service and launch various fighters, bombers and shuttles gives the ship an additional form of defense. Underneath the vessel is another deep space artillery battery. Main insignia of Tier one navy battleships and escorts is usually a red square. However a red and white chevron is awarded to combat proven ships. This section of the ship houses a short ranged quad barrel auto cannon. Firing 500kg shells in rapid succession proves lethal to enemy ships. Only majorly effective when parallel to enemy vessels. An aft gun pod contains a single deep space gun. This completes the compliment of a total of six deep space batteries. Drag brakes assist in the controlled decent into planet side shipyards for repairs, refueling and rearming. Also sometimes extended in combat to expose anti missile defences and countermeasure launchers underneath. The hanger control tower/bridge (bottom right) organises departures and arrivals of all spacecraft, fighters and shuttles within the hanger. Having a second command post within the ship means that if the primary bridge was to be destroyed, the entire vessel can be commanded and piloted from this point. 12 interstellar launch tubes (six each side) fire long range missiles and torpedoes.
