Team Jigsaw's MOCing the 80's . Team Jigsaw's entry in the MOCing the 80's category for the MocAthalon 2012. . MocAthalon 2012 Homepage Team Jigsaw Homepage My entry is based on Katsuhiro Otomo's classic cyberpunk epic, Akira. Set in a retro-futuristic, dystopian Japan, the plot focuses on Kaneda and Tetsuo, two members of a close-knit bike gang struggling to survive under the oppressive atmosphere of a police-state metropolis. Through a freak accident, Tetsuo gains vast telekinetic powers as that of the long-lost military test subject, Akira. A lot of interesting stuff happens in between here, but by the end of the film Tetsuo goes on a rampage through a large military base searching for Akira. Kaneda picks up a battered military shoulder-cannon to take on his renegade friend. As Tetsuo's powers rage out of control and begin to mutate, the military redoubles their efforts, rallying behind Kaneda to stop the psychopath. (Summary based purely on my memory of the film. Read the wikipedia article for a more full explanation.) This vignette is based on that penultimate battle, featuring Kaneda with his iconic red jacket and cannon, and Tetsuo with mutated arm and improvised red cape. Please note that I can't link to any actual clips from the movie, as it is rated R for a good reason. Once more, a large thanks to my team (and indeed, all my friends and family), without whom my efforts during this month would have been futile.
