Mech Arena - Wargames - The Pit [TUTORIAL] . So you want to beat the snot out of your friends, enemies and neutral acquaintances? Well you've come to the right place... . Welcome to the 74th Annual Hung- No wait, that's not right... Welcome to the first ever battle test of the Mech Arena Alpha testing. The tutorial series that should hopeful introduce the concepts of the Mech Arena battle system is here, and it will be the Wargames Series. It will consist of five games, each in a more complex and tactical map. The first is to be set in this arena: The Pit. Okay so here is the template for a game description: Arena: The Pit Series: Wargames I (I as in 1 as in the first game in Wargames) Complexity: Grade 0 (The scale is 0,1,2,3,S 0 being simplest and S (super) being most complex) Size: 32x32 (in studs) Players: 4-8 Game Type: Team death match (Take out all of you opponents: win!) Notes: - All players are to get the same mech and weapons (see the rest of this MOC) - No EP (energy points) Story: A group of companies have been working on some new prototype AIs, and they have come together to test them for bugs and make sure they know how to shoot straight. This diagram shows some of the basic elements of the arena. Outside the arena are some measurement tiles (modifications of my old stud ruler from DbM) that can used to check the size of the arena. The black and grey squares within the arena are spawn points (ie; you spawn there). Team one gets one of them and team two the other. Within their teams players decide who starts where. To make a move the person who's turn it is comments on the battle (will be a different MOC) with their move. Eg; Jak posts: "Move 1 space up, two left, shoot at Arik and use jetpack to move five down and three left." Moving it is pretty simple. You can move as many studs as your 'movement' stat (I'll add all the stats to the end of this post when I get around to it). No diagonal movement. For the purposes of the next three examples the mechs are on plates of their team's colour so you can tell which team they're on. This is not planned for actual games. This where it gets more complex: fighting. In the above example the Pink mech can fire on either Red or Black, because they fill all of the attack criteria: 1. Has line of sight (the moderator (me for the moment) will make sure you have line of sight) 2. Has enough ammo/energy to make the shot (ammo and energy are replenished at the start of each turn so if you have a ten round clip you can attack ten times) 3. Is not affected by any debuffs that inhibit attacking ability Say they attack black. Black is 5 studs away (the four with red on them + 1 for the enemy itself), so for every two studs (rounded up) the accuracy stat is tested. So it is tested six times. Say Pink's gun has accuracy of 80%, then the mod uses a random number generator to test if the bullet stays true. (Eg; give random 0-100, gets 72, stays true but if he gets 81 then it does not) If it stays true all three times Pink gets a hit, if it doesn't, even once, then Black takes no damage. I get that it is complex, but most of it is done on the moderators end so you don't really have to understand it completely unless you want to host a game. In this example Blue can fire on Dark Red, but not Orange or Black because they are behind other mechs. If Blue tells the mod he wants to fire on Black then Pink will take damage, so keep track of your enemies (the mod will update the image after each player's turn, so as long as you check that you'll be okay). Speaking of Pink and Black, they are within melee range of each other (ie; adjacent NOT diagonal). That means on their turn they may slice up their enemy. The amount of attacks they can make is based on the weight of their weapon and the agility of their mech, if they use and enrrgy blade it is based on the EP they have. The agility of the target is used as a dodge chance. I know that is complex too, but hopefully it will work out in the end. Green team has killed all of their opposition, so they have won! This is the mech you will be using. It is armed with a carbine and a sword. The light grey (on the mech) will be painted in your colour. So c'mon guys, gimme some feedbacks! And questions... And please point out all the stuff I've missed, 'cause I'm sure there's a lot of it. =D The LXF is the arena.
