SG's Third MOCpages Anniversary . One time mad dentist. One time fortune teller. One time Sith Lord. Full time builder. This is the story of my three years on MOCpages. . I can't belive it's been three years already. In fact, I thought it would be in July. But it turns out much sooner, in April. Anyway, here's a review of the last three years.
I started 'serious' building around mid 2008. I posted my MOCs on the LEGO Universe Creation Lab. You can find my 'MOCs' on there by searching for Exofighter10 in the creation lab. But for now I will onky show you my most popular MOC on that website. The All Terrain Armour Suit or AT AS.
Yep, it's a rainbow warrior. But this was the beginning of a love for Mechs I have had which ultimatley lead to my most popular MOC.
When searching Google for LEGO creations I found a link to MOCpages. I did this a number of times before joining. But once I did I left LU and made MOCpages my new home.
My first MOC I uploaded in this new found land was inspired by my favorite film at the time, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The MOC lacks detail, the photos are poor quality and the figure are badly made. But it was a start and I really pushed for this to be noticed.
This was my first huge MOC. I spent days planning this then making it. But it paid off. It became my most popular MOC at the time and lead me to a very important group to me. Star Wars LEGO Creations.
Here I found a thread with asking for anyone who wants to be a mod to sign up. Ofcourse I did. But at the time, I thought to be a mod or admin one had to be a good builder. So I asked the admin, Michael Qoyawayma to hold a contest and the winner would become a mod. He told me the key to being a good mod/admin. I then became a mod and I've been in the administration of the largest, most active Star Wars group on MOCpages.
Then came a series of Star Wars MOCs inspired by the ones I saw in Star Wars LEGO Creations.
Then came the 2010 Moc Athalon. I only entered one MOC for this and I'm disapointed that I had let my team down with my lack of entries. But here's a photo of it. It was a spininng top. I score low points for this. Which rubs more salt into the wound.
After the Moc Athalon I went back to building in my own time. During this time I revisted Mechs. I was churning them out. But they were poor quality. Just look at the way I made the limbs...
Here is the Stinger. I decided to include it in this review because it was my first MOC to get so many likes (by my standards) in one night. I uploaded it and when I checked the next day it had about ten likes. This gave me confidence and I think this was the start of a series of improvements.
Then came the Sharpie Clone Debate. For those of you not in the know, it was a debate where some builders tried to ban sharpie MOCs from MOCpages. I even herad one guy say they took up server space which should be saved for good MOCs. I belive MOCpages is for any MOC, no matter what the skill level. But to make a comprimise between the two sides, I built the Shock Trooper Armour Suit. It shows what people can do with their clones in order to get more views. This also shows the
next step of the eveloution of my Mechs. Note how I used minifig legs on the limbs.
To continue a series of small scale ships I built my greatest and most detailed one so far. The Banking Clan Frigate, from Star Wars. I pushed for this to be my most popular MOC. But, it never made it.
In the summer of 2010 I orderd the TIE Advanced LEGO set. Straight after building it I took it apart and built my second most popular MOC today. It was like on MOCpages. But at the Clone Army Builder Guild they said it was too similar to the TIE Advanced.
The Aveneger then hit the pages. It was the latest in my Minifig scale ships. Probably my best too. Also, I love the background of it.
On the 8th August I uploaded my first entry to the 2010 MOC Olympics. This was a major event for me. I learnt new skills and met new people. Some of which; Stuart Lucas, my worth adversary who defeated me in round two and Flare who I became friends with.
Here is my entry for the first final round of the Juniour MOC Olympics. I think it is well done. I would like to make more MOCs like this. But I don't get many oppertunities.
Along came the 2011 MOC Athalon. Again, I am ashamed for my lack of contribution to my team. However, my one entry did get us many points and it became my most popular MOC to this day. However, my golden age (2010-Early 2011) was over.
I struggled to match the awesomeness of my last MOC and thus all other MOCs I made were not good enough in my eyes and many of them didn't get to be uploaded to MOCpages.
To my horror, the MOC Olympics were back again. I hoped this could bring me out of my mini-dark age. It did. But not as well as I had hope for. I was eliminated in the first round. So I joined the MIT. I was also eliminated straight away.
I actually had planned this Single Pane Star Wars Funnies MOC for a while before it was uploaded. Trust me, there were many other sketches that never made it.
Then came the murder… This started a chain of deaths between George G and I.
The 2012 MOC Athalon started soon after and this time I was determined to not let my team down. But, I feel I did. My entries were poorly done and I scored badly. However, I feel I learned a great deal during the contest.
Then my latest MOC, The Land of the Free... became a kind of mini reveloution for me. It is probably one of my only MOCs that involve many scenes that has been such a hit! (again, by my standards)
To conclude, I would like to thank all who gave me advice but the main people who really helped me are:
Michael Kringe He comments on all of my MOCs and deserves to be thanked.
Flare Funny, good guy who's build have inspired me to this day.
George G A Great builder and friend of mine.
Patrick Like Michael, Patrick always comments on my MOCs and is an invalubale asset to SWLC.
Michael Rutherford Helped inspire a couple of MOCs during my Dark Age as well as recently giving me tips on one of my groups.
Thank you for a brilliant three years. And whilst I'm here I'll just say; this page has taken my over three hours to make because I kept making mistakes with the text, images and HTML. So I appologies if it looks scruffy or reads badly.
