Why?
Man trapped in Subway . ‘’Engine, Rescue, Dispatch to a 24 year old male trapped between a train and the platform at the Maple Place subway station. Patient is breathing and currently conscious. Local police are on the scene and are keeping the crowd back. Time out 3 minutes.’’ ‘’Engine two to dispatch Message. Engines two go ahead. Engine two to dispatch can we get a 10-20 on the location of the incident. Engine two the location is the Maple Place subway station on 5th street. Engine two to dispatch 10-4.’’ . BCPD keep the shocked crowd back. EMTs assess the situation. An engine Two crew member brings a circular saw. The BCFD chief talks with the police officer who reported the incident. Firefighter Trent Blockface begins cutting the side rail of the train, inches from the terrified patient's face. Firefighter Trent Blockface inserts an air-operated jack between the train and the platform to create a space so the patient can be lifted out. EMTs begin immobilising the patient with a spine board. EMTs secure the patient to the spine board and lift him out. The patient has a large gash to the left side of his chest. The shocked patient is complaining of feeling cold so EMTs wrap him in an insulating foil blanket. EMTs transport the patient to the surface. The patient is transported by ambulance to the hospital. On the 27th of April 2012 at approximately 9:45 pm the BCFD received a call out to a person trapped between a subway train and the platform of the Maple Place train station. When SCEMS Rescue 1 arrived on scene the crew immediately set up a control point and called for Emergency back up. Within 4 minutes of receiving the call Engine two arrived and began to help the paramedics of the rescue pull the patient from between the platform and the train. 12 minutes after receiving the call the crew of Rescue 1 had the patient wrapped up and in the back of the ambulance and off to the Stud County regional Hospital in Norbrick City. It’s believed that the man had got off the train to validate his ticket and when he got back on the door closed and his leg fell and became trapped between the platform and the train. If it wasn’t for a police officer bringing the incident to the train driver’s attention, the train would have left the station and the man would have been dragged for 1200 meters to the next station. The patient is now in a stable condition in the Stud County Hospital.
