Conquering Kilimanjaro . On June 10th, Spencer West will be climbing 20,000 steps to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. His goal is to raise 750,000 dollars to provide clean water for the people that have been affected by the drought. But what really makes this amazing is that age 5, Spencer had both his legs amputated. He's doing this to raise awareness about the drought that affected east Africa so badly last year. As Spencer put it "As I've heard before, you can't eliminate a problem by simply declaring that it's over. It's not like turning a tap off. And drought doesn't get a summer vacation. " . Here you see Mt. Kilimanjaro. It's a little out of scale, but it would have been hard to make it life sized. :) Here you see Alex Meers in the blue, David Johnson in the green,(Spencers two best friends) and Paul, the guide that will bring them to the top of the mountain. Alex taking a break in Hans Meyer Cave. Spencer posing for the camera in front of the Mt Kilimanjaro sign. Here you can see the black rock poking through the snow. The waterfall coming out from the mountain. Alec Taking a shot of the mountain with his camera. Steve taking a picture of Spencer. And a monkey just hanging out. Thanks for taking the time to check out my creation!
