Why?
Space-Race Era Star Fighter . This little ship is my entry for the Real World Fighter Contest over on Flickr. . Take a look at the group page for more info on the contest. The basic idea of the contest is to build a fighter that uses technology that already exists or is not far from existing. I wanted to build a fighter that looks like it may be from the Space-Race era. Everything on those early spacecraft is messy and naked (no paneling). Anyway, I hope you all like it and good luck to all those who are competing! All the equipment a fighter pilot might need. What kind of equipment? I don't know, I'm not a fighter pilot, but I'm sure he has everything he needs. These adjustable solar panels power all the electric equipment onboard. They can be rotated and angled for optimum solar absorption. The big gold tank you see here is the oxygen tank. Plenty of air for lengthy dogfights. One of the requirement of the contest is that the fighter has to carry a nuke. This one carries it on it's underbelly. I wish I had a sticker that says "Skadoosh!" or maybe "ET Go Home!".
