Why?
F28-K "Halberd" . F28-K "Halberd" Heavy Fighter . The F28 "Halberd" Heavy Fighter was originally designed in 2180 to replace the aging F26 incorporating all of the Terran Confederation's advances in defensive and offensive technologies. HL Shipyards' R&D division originally named it the HL8-RD during its prototype days and the name has stuck ever since. Sometimes known as the "Halbird", its official designation is the F28 Petrel but almost no one refers to it as such. The current K revision is armed with four RPM SLT 350 mass drivers and four LR Vendetta MKIV laser cannons. This revision adds four more concussion torpedoes to the J revision's twelve. The F28's defensive systems are also formidable. The current revision has twice the armor of the F37-B Osprey while having around 70% of its shield capability. While not as agile as the F37-B, the Halberd is able to engage at a longer range and is notably more durable. Given its heavy power plant and extended jump capabilities, it is ideal for long-range hit & run missions against hardened targets.
