Unstable Colossus: Darimain . For the Periodic Bionicle Contest 2012 Final Round, against Callan Lord of Fire, in the category Mutant Astatine Beast... the Unstable Colossus, a failed OoMN experiment... Darimain. .
The Periodic Bionicle Contest 2012.
Information about astatine here.
Astatine is quite the interesting element.
Nobody really knows what it looks like; as soon as it would reach a hypothetically visible state, its own immense radioactivity would immediately cause itself to melt.
Due to these and other intriguing properties, the Order of Mata Nui conducted some experiments on the element. These experiments were similar to other such trials they had conducted, except that instead of testing elemental effects on Toa, they were being tested under a radically new idea- giving a Rahi destructive elemental abilities. They had spent years testing small Rahi such as Ruki fish and the like, and now the OoMN scientists were ready to go bigger. Literally.
A Tahtorak was brought in for the astatine project. Nobody know exactly what happened during the experiment, but needless to say the bestowing of elemental power succeeded.
This beast, now dubbed the Unstable Colossus, Darimain, has lost its initial intelligence and sentience that is common to Tahtorak. Altered by the radioactive particles bombarding it, the beast mutated strangely, and gained astatine elemental powers. It has been known to become totally unseen for a time, though how exactly this works in unknown. The Darimain can also launch bolts of radioactivity from its spines, but these blasts cannot be seen either.
Altogether considered a dangerous Rahi to encounter.
So that, as they say, is that.
Quite a fun build, to be honest. I just kept on adding parts, pretty much, until I felt satisfied. I'm pretty happy with the spine; the design is similar to that of Finrahk. The gaps in the Darimain's back possibly could've been filled in better, but I like how they look as is, actually. In addition to this, I hope you all like the parts usage for the eyes... turns out there was a positive use for those crystal skull pieces after all.
Good luck to my opponent, CallanLoF. Two contests at once can be tough, but I think he can pull it off. ;)
There will be four hidden links on this page, showing off a tablescrap MOC I recently built. Neat little thing. :P
More to come soon.
