USS Iowa-- Monument class Starship . An Ultra Light cruiser . Monument class Starships are possibly the smallest 'cruisers' in Starfleet, designated as 'Ultra light'. They generally assume the role of patrol vessels, capable of dealing with pirate or smuggling vessels, but are powerful enough to deal with a Klingon Bird-of-Prey if the need arises.
Weapons: 6 Medium Phaser banks (fore, 3 dorsal, 3 ventral), 4 Light Phaser banks (Aft), 4 Light Photon Torpedo launchers (2 fore, 2 aft). Can mount fore cannons.
Impulse Speed: 1000kmh
Warp Speed: Warp 9.5
Other: 4 crew
Short/long range sensors
2 Tractor beam emitters
Auxiliary Impulse engines (mounted in nacelle pylons)
The vessels are small, but reliable, and so many are in service, such as the USS Iowa. While they aren't the most glamorous ships in Starfleet, the crews have had a tendency to bond with the vessels, understandably.
The class has very limited scientific capability, and exploration wouldn't be a good idea with one of these ships. However, the tactical abilities are relatively good considering the size of the ship; Phaser cannons, such as those on the Defiant class, can be mounted, albeit downsized.
The small deflector dish mounted on the underside can emit various low power beams of exotic particles to help or hinder other vessels, such as a tachyon beam to drain the shields of a pirate ship. These beams are the limit of the class' scientific abilities.
A dorsal access hatch for when the ship is docked.
Due to the cramped nature of the ship, the access hatch leads directly to engineering.
The twin warp core.
The rearmost section of the ship houses some more components of the warp core (such as plasma injectors), alongside the central EPS hub and coolant piping.
The saucer section has three distinct areas; the Bridge, the Transporter, and the Quarters.
The view-screen on the bridge, flanked by the consoles.
Quarters. There are three bunks, a table, a personal computer, replicator, water dispenser, toilet, and shower.
A clearer view of the replicator, dispenser, and shower. The drainage grilles for the shower can be seen in front of the yellow tank in the middle of the picture (there is a shower-head, hidden from view).
Transporter area. There is also a medical cabinet, phaser pistols, and an advanced sensor console.
A departing shot as the Iowa goes to patrol the Romulan Neutral Zone.
Some WIP shots:
Well, this was certainly a fun build. The set that I used was the latest Millenium Falcon. I had plans to convert the aforementioned set into an NX-class style ship originally, but I left those plans behind, and now this is the result. Working with the pre-existing hull of the Falcon meant that there would ALWAYS be gaps in the saucer section, rather annoyingly, but it could be worse; the MOST annoying aspect was the framework on the underside, especially as I'm lacking the pieces to cover it up in grey, but it has grown on me a bit.
It's inspired by the Intrepid, a Starfleet vessel in the 22nd century (it can be seen in ST: Enterprise in a few episodes); a pretty sleek ship if you ask me.
Anyway, I'll leave you to do whatever you want now, be it leaving a comment or rating, or doing nothing at all.
