X-Wing Starfighter . My largest model to date, this UCS scale X-Wing measures 32" long, 28" wide, and 17" high on stand. The canopy is custom built from a sheet of smoked plexiglass. The wings fold into flight or attack position by way of a gear system, operated by a round element in the back. . The head of R2-D2 is painted using a mask created from the R4 piece that comes on set 10215, Obi-Wan's Jedi Starfighter. Blue tape was wrapped around the cannons. Me next to it, for scale. For the gear system, I simply used two gear boxes. I attached both gear boxes to the top set of S-foils, since they must work against gravity to open. As the top S-foils open, they push the bottom S-foils down via 8 gears. S-foils closed. They do sag a bit since they are so heavy.
