In the early days of Mata Nui, there was a Le-Matoran named Adiemus. Adiemus was pretty much good at everything, from academics to tracking and hunting. His only fault was his size. Other Matoran often picked on him and teased him because he was so small. He learned to ignore the teasing but sometimes Matoran would chase him, knock him down and beat him. Whenever he heard Matoran coming he’d hide in bushes or climb a tree until they had gone past. One day, as he was reading a book, he heard the Matoran coming. He searched around frantically but didn’t see a bush or tree anywhere, so he ran as hard as he could away from the approaching Matoran. Once the Matoran spotted him, they quickened their pace and caught up to him in no time. But just as they grabbed him, a wild Ash Bear came out of the brush and roared at them. The other Matoran stumbled back and cowered in fear but Adiemus was quick to act. He picked up a stick and waved it at the bear, trying to scare it off. The bear was not impressed, however. It lurched forward, trying to swipe Adiemus with its paw. Adiemus jumped back just in time but tripped over a root and fell hard on his back. The Ash Bear stood on its hind legs and roared, ready to strike. Just as it’s paw came down, Adiemus rolled over and the paw struck the ground. The bear roared and looked around for the little Matoran. Adiemus got up and ran for his stick that he had dropped. He snatched it up and just as he turned around the bear’s paw struck him across the face.
Adiemus woke in a bed, but it was not his bed. He sniffed the air; it smelled like hot stew and fresh mist. He could hear the sound of trees blowing in the breeze, a waterfall falling into a river, and the chirping of songbirds. He took a deep breath of fresh air and smiled. He opened his eyes and looked over to where the smell of food was coming from. He didn’t see anything. Literally, he couldn’t see a thing! He sat up in his bed and looked around frantically, there was nothing! All he saw was blackness! He grabbed at his face; it was all bandaged up. He tore away the wrappings and still, he saw nothing. He stumbled out of the bed and walked over to where he could hear water running and trees blowing. He ran into a railing and fell down. He slowly tried to get up, but he was unbalanced and he felt light-headed. He fell down once again, and this time he didn’t try to get up. He started to cry. He blinked his eyes multiple times but nothing happened. He still couldn’t see.
Just then he heard a door open. He quickly got to his feet but fell down once again, and this time, hitting his head on the railing. He heard footsteps approach him, then a female’s voice.
“How do you feel?” the voice asked.
“I can’t see,” he mumbled rubbing his head.
The voice said nothing. She remained silent so long that Adiemus thought she had left.
“Are you still there?” he asked.
“Yes...” she sighed.
“What happened?” he asked, “Why can’t I see?”
“You were attacked, I think you can remember that.”
“Yeah...an Ash Bear...Oh Great Beings," he sat straight up, "I’ve gone blind!”
“Yes,” the voice said in a very sad tone, “we tried everything we could, there was nothing we could do.”
Adiemus held his head in his hands. He refrained from cry in front of the lady, but it was hard.
“W-who are you?” he asked in a small voice.
“My name is Helryx,” she responded, “I am a Toa and I run the Order here.”
Adiemus looked up, momentarily forgetting his lose.
“You’re a Toa?”
“Yes, yes I am.”
Adiemus was about to ask more questions but she spoke before he did.
“Now come, you must be starving. I can answer more of your questions over dinner.”
Over dinner, they discussed many things, mainly Helryx’s Toa status, but when the meal was over, she asked him something.
“Adiemus,” she said seriously, “do you want to be a Toa, or do you want to be something more?”
Adiemus pondered this a minute, then said, “What do you mean?”
“When you were struck by that bear, two Toa showed up and scared the beast off. They took you up and rushed you to the sick bay at their Toa base, their doctors tried to heal your eyes, but couldn’t. That’s when they sent you to me. The doctors here are much more sophisticated, but even we could not help you. I’m afraid you’ll be blind for the rest of your life. So I have a question, would you rather join the Toa and be a bench-warmer, a Toa never gets to go out on missions, or would you want to work alongside me, on The Order of Mata Nui?”
“...What’s The Order of Mata Nui?”
“I’ll tell you,” she said. Adiemus thought he could sense her smile.
Once she explained their mission, Adiemus was definitely interested.
“I’ve never been that into fighting anyway...”
"I have a Toa Stone right here. What is your answer? I can send you back to the Toa, or you can stay here and work with me?"
“I’ll do it.”
She gave him the Stone and he transformed into a Toa.
“Another reason I wish I could see,” he sighed glancing down at his new body.
“It will be alright,” she said, touching his arm, affectionately.
Once he got into training, he advanced in everything. From obstacle courses and combat, to learning to use his other senses dependably. His chief instructor was Kennos, a strong OoMN member, a skilled colonel and good friends with Helryx. Over time, Adiemus felt attracted to Helryx more and more. They, along with Kennos were an excellent team. Together they planned war strategies and Helyrx often sought Adiemus's counsel on delicate matters.
When Mata Nui was banished to Bara Magna, it was a very stressful time for the Order. They were at war with the brotherhood and constantly faced ambushes and attacks. One evening, Helryx was in the war room pouring over maps when Adiemus came in.
“How is it going?” he asked.
“I don’t know,” she said in desperation, “It’s hard to even guess where the Makuta might be coming from. It’s like we’re surrounded.”
“We’ll be okay,” he said, moving closer to her.
“I don’t see how we can be.”
Adiemus put his arm around her and she leaned into him.
“...We could escape,” he said.
“What?” she pulled away from him.
“We could run away together. We don’t have to stay here, we could--“
“No Adiemus! How could you even think of running?”
“You are not a coward Adiemus! You’re better then this!”
“Am I? I’m nothing, Helryx. I’m blind! I cannot see. What use am I besides your little pet?”
“Don’t talk like that!”
Just then they heard a big boom and a horn blast in the distance. Kennos came running into the room.
“They’re attacking the eastern wall,” he said.
“Come on,” she said, putting on her swords, “We can not let them take the base!”
She dashed out of the room following Kennos
Adiemus hesitated. He stood there for less then a minute, but it seemed like centuries to Adiemus. He glanced at the door where Helryx and Kennos had left, then exited out another door.
He slipped out the west entrance of the fortress with a pack on his shoulder. He paused for a minute to hear if anyone was coming, then he ran through the forest, away from the fortress, and Helryx.
Ever since that day, Adiemus regretted his decision to leave. He lived as a nomad in the wild for several years, helping when he can and taking help from no one. Then when Teridax came to Bara Magna, Adiemus felt he had to help the Toa in the fight. He exited the giant robot via a hatch in its ankle after all the Rahkshi had ambushed the Toa. Putting a safe distance between him and the battle, he climbed to the top of a hill with a view of the battle and stood there, silently, for he could not see the devastating battle at hand. He listened closely. He heard the clashing of weapons, the blasting of Rahkshi lasers, the screams of Toa, and elements of all kinds, being wielded. He also detected the horrific smells of burning flesh, melted armor and the stink of sulfur. He could also not mistake the earsplitting blasts from the giants above. Not sure what to do, he remained there, frozen in place. Then he heard a scuffle from behind. He whipped around, his swords drawn. He concentrated hard, trying to detect a scent, or hear a breath. Then a body leapt on his back and grabbed his arms. Adiemus dropped his swords, grabbed the being's wrist, flung him over onto his back and pressed his foot on the stranger's neck.
"Please," it begged, "I didn't--"
Then a battle cry came from behind Adiemus; more people were coming. He picked up his swords, but just as he was about to send an air blast at the newcomers, the being on the ground stabbed his foot with a knife. Adiemus howled and kicked the being down the hill, but then the others were upon him. Two pairs of hands grabbed his arms, and pulled him down to the ground. Then he heard footsteps walking towards him.
"And this is how the Toa will always be," a rough voice said, "kneeling before the Skrall!"
The two beings behind him, presumably Skrall, lifted their hands and cheered. Their mistake. Adiemus jumped to his feet and slide his wrist-blades out. He whirled around just as the two Skrall realized their mistake and stabbed them both in the stomachs. He heard the footsteps of the other Skrall running towards him, and flung his wrist-blades into the Skrall's face. He held his breath for a minute, to see if there were any more, and then exhaled. He felt amazing. He put his hands on his hips and stood on the Skrall triumphantly. He was about to let out a laugh when he heard a gigantic crash from above and then felt a long shadow pass over him. He glanced up and knew what had happened. He leapt from the hill, away from the battle, and ran as fast as he could. He heard the creaking of metal and the crashing of sand. from behind. He jumped to the side and lay on his stomach. He felt the rumble as the giant being, formerly know as Teridax, fell to the ground. There was a giant ripple effect as the metal met the ground sending a wave of sand over Adiemus. He waited till all the rumbling had subsided, then he pulled himself out of the sand, shook the sand out of his ears and listened. Silence. Then all of a sudden the air erupted with cheering. Adiemus stood and stumbled back up the hill. As he got towards the top, the cheering became louder. When he reached the top, he could hear more. He heard the sound of shots being fired in celebration, swords striking shields, flames being shot into the sky, and the sound of Rahkshi fleeing for their lives. He almost smiled but then realized, he was not the reason they were cheering. He turned to the fallen Makuta. Hesitantly, he walked up to it and lay his hand on its side; he knew, he felt, that Teridax was gone for good. He turned back towards the armies of cheerful Toa. He felt betrayed, excluded. Had they not seen that he also had killed some enemies? Not feeling much like celebrating, he picked up his blades, turned, and left.
More to be revealed in Hunters Hunted. ;)
Now to the MOC!
Here he is. :)
I like how he turned out for the most part. One of my favorite MOCs.
He's supposed to look a little disproportionate. With big armor, yet an agile look.
Lower legs and feet. I like them, I'll probably do more with the back of them later. ;)
Upper legs and torso, some of my favorite parts. :D Both custom too.
Left arm. All custom.
Head. I really like this. The dread-lock like antenna function as extra-sensors. (Custom head BTW. }:D)
Back of the lower legs. Like I said, I'll do more work on these later.
Backside with swords attached. (I'll fix those red axles later.)
Without swords attached. ;)
More action poses.
In battle, he usually throws his wrist-blades and then pulls out his swords.
Speak of the devil...
Come at me bro.
It's been a while since I've built a MOC that can fold it's arms. :P It used to be all the rage.
Mowa wind powa!
The epic trio.
Rain Man Theme by Hans Zimmer.
Adiemus by Karl Jenkins.
As I said, this is one of my favorite MOCs. All custom aside from the feet and lower legs. I'm pretty satisfied with him, aside from the back of his lower legs. Those need work. ;) Some of you might say he's like Talonmagic, well, he's not. :P (No offense Talon)
I hope you guys like him! :D
Soli Deo Gloria!
