Marauder . . I present to you Marauder, a Decepticon I invented based on the Marauder, an urban-warfare vehicle built in South Africa by the Paramount Group and recently featured on the U.K.'s Top Gear.
Weight: 21,000 lbs
Mine protection: Double anti-tank mine under any wheel, single under hull
Protection level: STANAG level III
Top speed: 75 mph
These comparison pictures show what I was working off. I watched the Top Gear episode (season 17, episode 1) a half-dozen times as well.
Transform! Here's a demonstration of a complete transformation, from vehicle to robot mode. Including taking pictures, the process takes about 40 minutes. I do not have to "cheat" - ever bit of the transformation really works. A few pieces have a tendency to fall off (side view mirrors, for example), but for a true transformation like this, I reattach every part before proceeding to the next step.
Building notes: Longest project ever! I didn't log my hours or progress, but I estimate this one was 80-100 hours of building, including those hours of staring and thinking that inevitably intersperse a Transformer project. Every single component of the vehicle was carefully crafted to be as close to the original as possible. There isn't a single feature that wasn't rebuilt completely at least once, some many more times.
Timeline: Started building in early May. May-August = roughly 3 months of active building, 8 hours a week or so on average.
Size: Robot mode = 14 inches tall, 12 inches wide
Truck mode = 42 studs long, 14 studs wide from fender to fender
Thanks: My wife, of course! Bricklink orders, late nights, and my preoccupation name a few of the sacrifices she gladly puts up with, knowing this is my passion. Thanks, honey! Love you!
Happy birthday: To my son! Happy 4th birthday, buddy!
