VL-DS Hydra . The new Imperial Lego Air Force Jet Trainer! . The VL-DS Hydra is a single engine, two-seater advanced jet trainer and light ground-attack aircraft used by the Imperial Lego Air Force. More info and images about the Imperial Lego Air Force, please click here! In 2024, the Imperial Lego Air Force specified a requirement for a new fast jet trainer to replace the VL Yure training Aircraft. The Hydra soon entered service in the Imperial Air Force, Imperial Navy Aviation and the Imperial Marine Corps. The Hydra has been used for intermediate and advanced portions of the Imperial Navy Aviation/Marine Corps Student Naval Aviator strike pilot training program at the Imperial Navy Aviation Academy, in Espada. The Hydra had not been designed for carrier operations and numerous modifications were required to make it carrier-suitable. These included improvements to the low-speed handling characteristics and a reduction in the approach speed, more robust and wider landing gear with catapult tow bar attachment and an arresting hook. The naval version also features a two-wheel nose landing gear. Standard armament included a 37mm ENA-75 autocannon in the fuselage centreline gun pod, with four wing hard-points for bombs, ground attack missiles and air-to-air missiles. Two hard-points are plumbed for 2 external fuel tanks and it can be air refuelled. The Hydra is extremely manoeuvrable and fully capable of battlefield operations.
