Why?
2000 International/KME Pumper . This is a 2000 International/KME pumper. It has a 1500 gpm Waterous single-stage pump and a 1000 gallon tank. It is a typical example of the many commercial chassis fire apparatus protecting communities across America. . Many fire departments cannot afford new fire apparatus built on a custom fire chassis with a custom fire cab. One solution to this problem is to build fire apparatus using less expensive commercial chassis. Much fire apparatus of all types has been built over the past 100 plus years on commercial chassis from Ford, Freightliner, International and Mack as well as many other builders of commercial trucks. The first motorized fire apparatus all were built using commercial truck chassis as well as on common automobile chassis. Purpose built or "custom" fire apparatus chassis became common in the 1920's and 1930's. However, fire apparatus continued to be built on less expensive commercial chassis. Today, a significant proportion of modern fire apparatus is built on commercial chassis. This pumper was built by KME using a International Navistar 4900 cab and chassis. The Navistar 4900 was a popular choice for pumpers and many were built by many different manufacturers including KME, Pierce and E-One. BFD552@gmail.com
